Subject: Nottm Forest Rant

2008-07-05 14:07:33
My lodger (also a Forest fan) reckons that the £25k a week reports are rubbish and that we wouldn't break our wage structure to pay Cole that much.
2008-07-05 15:03:05
I'd also be surprised if we were paying cole that much considering his age /recent performance.
2008-07-05 15:06:43
Considering Cole is Nottingham born can't help thinking you signed him 20 years too late!
2008-07-05 16:46:07
recent performance is 6 goals in 13 games at that level so its not too bad.

i doubt forest would spend that much but consider this. Doughty has sold his stake in umbro, he is worth over a billion easy and now he has no other distractions other than forest.

they have just been promoted, they have just had a massive cash injection off the pitch the chairman has spent the last month or so doing no other business outside of forest. i doubt very much that Doughty, with his ridiculous sums of money and forests slim profit margin would scrimp on the cash. not when the chance is here to stay out of the third tier that you got stuck in for way too long.

with his talk of a 50,000 seater stadium (if England gets the world cup or forest get back in prem) he needs names in, he needs wins and he needs more fans. considering forest rarely sell their stadium out at just over 30k and i dont think they ever have done it without the kids for a quid and reduced students price schemes since they dropped out of the prem its not good. there is just not enough money from the forest fans right now so he needs to justify upping prices whilst upping attendences through out the season.

A) he wants to get in the prem
B) he wants them TV games
C) he wants more fans in

bit of a cliche but he has to spend money to make money and £1,250,000 on andy cole doesn't seem to bad.

as for forest wage structure, i imagine that went out the window on the 1st of july

Isn't Andy Cole the wrong side of 37 by now?
2008-07-05 23:31:11
There isn't a wrong side of 37!
2008-07-06 00:02:40
he's 36 but it hardly matters, its not going to be his job to work his arse off for the team, he's there to finish.

if he keeps up his record of last season of just slightly under a goal every other game its a cracking bit of business.
2008-07-06 12:22:48
and if he turns out to be another Neil Lennon?
2008-07-06 17:56:00
then i'd laugh my ever loving boobies off, i predicted that would happen to them and was chuffed when it did.
2008-07-06 23:02:34
spoken like someone on the wrong side of 37.

I agree with you fujor, Forest should be a big team in the championship, anyone with gates over 20k should be in the top 10 at least, and a promotion push isn't out of the question if Cole and Earnshaw stay fit.

;-)

As I am the oldest person in SK, you would do well to listen whipper-snapper!

hmm. Another striker. any views on Joe Garner?

I've heard mixed things about him - but that was from a Blackburn fan.
2008-08-03 20:12:28
He's an ugly f*cker. Fairly good record at Carlisle last season; but that's the only one he has played... Bit of a gamble I think mate. There was a Calderwood interview in the Evening Post in which he said he thought the fans would be 'surprised with what Garner had to bring' so that could mean anything! Apparently he's decent at holding the ball up and bringing other people into play. Might be a better bet that Emile 'next Chris Allen' Sinclair.

He's an ugly f*cker.

Which reminds me of Crouch in interview. When asked recently what he would be if he wasn't a professional footballer he quickly replied, "A virgin."

Excellent.

surely forest fans know something about him, he did play in the same division as you.

anyway he's ok, fairly quick and has enough guile to create chances and work spaces well from the bit i've seen of him he sits a little bit deeper than the most advanced striker and acts as the foil to a teams attack. would work well with tyson on the wing and earnshaw up front as those two guys run into channels

is injured now (how did he pass his medical?) and will be till at least september probably october
