Subject: Ronaldo time to face the music

Ouch you poor thing......

Actually you're wrong on a few things there.

Firstly he didn't play as a midfielder. Manure didn't play with strikers, but describing him as a midfielder is ridiculous.
Secondly, he wasn't the highest goal scorer in the Premiership. Take away the penalties and Torres outscored him. Take away the set pieces and it looks less respectable.
He scored 5 against Newcastle and they should be deducted for unsporting behaviour.

Kaka is a better player. David Villa is a better player.

In that case 50% of Shearers and Henry's goals should be wiped out then shouldnt they? So they were actually only average strikers by your thinking.
I do agree with his position however, and I would describe him as an attacking mid not just a mid. He is basically allowed to attack and not defend much at all in Man Utds formation. Torres did outscore him in open play, but then he should as he is an out-and-out striker and got 75% of Liverpool's chances. Man Utd's goals were pretty much shared around, Liverpool's were mainly distributed to 2 players. And Ronaldo played in more games too, but that is because he was at a better team so got further in the cups and Europe.
But even with all that taken into account, 40+ goals in a season is special by anyones standard. And on current form and reputation, he is the most valuable and best player in the world imo. Did Kaka or Villa score 40+ goals this season? No............

you are being cpompletely irrational.

1. He played as a midfielder. If he isn't a striker, a winger, a defender, or a keeper, then he is a midfielder. or do you want to invent a new position that allows you to carry on belittling his achievements? if he were english i am sure FIFA would support you in this.
2. Yes he was. You cannot simply ignore penalties and set pieces because they do not match your view of the world. He scored more premiership goals than anyone else. that makes him top premiership scorer.
3. WTF?!?! is this a new rule that nobody knows about? if you score a lot and people don't like you then random goals are deducted? i'm a toon fan and even i think that is a riddiculous comment.

sorry, but your post is purely a biased rant. i don't like the guy either, but he is an outstanding footballer. get over it.
2008-06-20 13:35:21
I'd have him at the toon any day :)
2008-06-20 13:37:13
no doubt! although if we had him then in a single season he would a) be injured for life, b) end up in jail, and c) never ever ever score again
2008-06-20 14:03:03
Or he'd start a fight with with Duff/Zoggy/Milner because they wouldn't pass to him :P
2008-06-20 14:48:20
He's not a midfielder though, he plays in a front 3, and at times, he was the furthers forward of those 3.

He's a forward(not a striker, there's a difference)
2008-06-20 14:52:22
i would go with attacking mid. he does far too much work in the midfield build-up and in creating opportunities to be considered a forward. he just makes A LOT of attacking runs.
2008-06-20 15:01:03
How many assists did he get last season? 8 I have it as, for the whole season, that for me, isn't a midfielder, especially when getting 40 goals.
2008-06-20 15:01:28
owen martins ronaldo :/

if we had ronaldo id stick him on the wing get the crosses in
2008-06-20 15:03:28
That's a ridiculous hypothesis...so a midfielder that scores 12 and makes 15 assists is better than Ronaldo? Ronaldo scored or played the final ball in 48 goals last season! A goal can't be an assist, right?
2008-06-20 15:11:51
It's not that, that defines him, I just think it shows, how and where he plays, for me he plays as a forward, if Madrid buy him, don't expect to see him popping up on the left/right midfield spots, he'll either play off the front man, or as a winger/forward.

I don't see him as a attacking midfielder, as he doesn't attack from midfield, he stays up front, and drops back occasionally to pick the ball up.
2008-06-20 15:57:28
and his defending is awful as proved by euro 2008 and how is pants when there isn't a 'weak' defender to attack and theres a decent keeper.
2008-06-20 16:47:48
To me United play 4-6-0 with most of the midfielders able to interchange with the forwards, particularly if Nani, Giggs and Scholes are on the pitch - I think it was Roma that first started using the tactic?

On the subject of facing the music, a month back I was all for keeping Ronaldo at any price, but if Madrid really do come up with the £75M being reported then I'd say good riddance.

I know the media blow everything out of all proportion, but Ronaldo could have ended this circus weeks ago with a simple unequivocal statement. IMO no player (no matter how good) is bigger than the team.
2008-06-20 16:50:36
Manu should go out and get Aguero from Madrid(the other one), and Benzema if Ronaldo gets sold.
