Subject: Starting a Band (Dude)

2008-08-06 13:12:47
Woppa [del] to All
I'm going to start a band, basically to keep me off the streets during the winter months. Cricket has served this purpose during the summer, but it's the last week of the season this week, so I need another hobby to avoid the inevitable court cases.

So; I'm doing a poster with tear off bits on the bottom (with my name and number on) for the local music shop. At the bottom, I want to do an A-Z of bands that I not only like, but that I can see us doing covers of. Can anyone help fill in the blanks?

Arctic Monkeys
Bloc Party
Cribs
Dirty Pretty Things
Editors
Futureheads
Good Shoes
Hot hot heat
Interpol
Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong
Killers
Long Blondes
Maximo Park
National
OkGo
Pull Tiger Tail
Q and not U
Razorlight
Strokes
Tokyo Police Club
Unicorns
Vampire Weekend
We Are Scientists
Xiu xiu
Young Knives
zZz

Any help will be ridiculed, but don't let that stop you. Post punk or indie rock type bands only, please. I won't stoop to U2. Or Queen.

stretching it a bit, but...

...Queens of the Stone Age

That was about the best I could do for Q, but I just don't see this band playing anything that heavy.

I thought of that, but not sure I know anyone who can play a sax. That's what the poster's for though, I guess. Still, I'd prefer something better.

I can happily forget one or two in the middle, and nobody might notice. But if I put up an "A-Y" of bands, that's going to stick out like a sore thumb, so I definitely need a Z.

I haven't heard of half of those. I didn't think I was that old at 36.

They're largely a similar genre (I hate genres, but there you go), so if there's a few on there you like, it's possible you are into "post-punk revival". You could always try a few of the others on there out, or wiki the post-punk revival article for a more comprehensive list.

How about a bit of Frank Zappa?

or (not particularly heavy), Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust phase...
