2008-09-08 00:04:28
All according to Wiki:

Ronaldo:57 (go back another season and it's 66)
The Yak: 42 (go back another season and it's 55)
Keane: 42 (go back another season and it's 53)
The Drog: 40 (go back another season and it's 50)

Any other contenders?

Keane has 42 for the last 3 prem campaigns.

Damn you.

Bent has 39.

The Yak gets some stick, but he's great. Consistently good. And he gets some stick for being inconsistent, too, which I find shocking. He's definitely my kind of striker. A big bugger, as my Nana would have described him (well probably "A big black bugger", but she was from a different era).

Hmm interesting. Are you sure you aren't amalgamating Darren and Marcus's prem tallies?

Anyhoo, I think this point is becoming laboured. The Yak is not crap. He is, at the very least, comparable to any other premiership striker, and therefore valid in my prem XI. Anyone else fancy posting theirs for derision?

Lampard 38(no it's not his weight in stone ha bloddy ha), I'm struggling to find anyone else now though.

Henry? I know he's been gone a season or so, but he hit a fair few before that.

Henry scores 37 since aug 2005. Would be 62 but for my cunningly chosen timescale. (or for the fact I said current players, anyway)

Yes he is, I like him as a striker aswell, never seems to bother (seems being the important word), though when the ball get's anywhere near the goal, or a chance to get in on goal appears, he's a completely different player, and has the strength to hold any player off the ball.

Edit: He also got those goals in teams not renown for their goalscoring exploits.

Your edit is very perceptive, oh vulpine one. Probably one which led you to your suggestion of Robbie Keane.

Anyway, onto my ex-eye.

--------------- James ----------------Bloody 'ell t'was difficult pickin 'keeper I tell thee, Cech hasn't been the same since Hunt kneed him, James wins by default.

Corluka - Vidic - Ferdinand - Lescott

------------- Hargreaves -------------

--------- Essien --- Fabregas -------

- Young---------------------- Ronaldo -

---------------- Torres ------------------

Vidic and Ferdinand work so well together, I could go with Carvalho instead of Ferdinand, I'm always impressed with Corluka, and for me, could be the best signing of the summer, Lescott for his goals last season, gets ahead of Cole and Clichy.

Midfield wise, I put Essien in, though possibly not his best position, Hargreaves is so good for me that I can't leave either he nor Essien out, meaning Scholes just misses out. Wingers were a no contest.

Up front, a stronger striker (Yak) just misses out, but fabregas would be able to play Torres in enough.

Yes it did, but more so my obsession with him starting off at Wolves.

Not sure I can agree with your full backs, but then I have a dislike of fullbacks in general, which in recent times is starting to turn into a full blown hatred.

I had the same keeper issues. Cech pre-knee would have been a no-brainer, but his last premiership appearances coupled with his quixotic euro championship relegated him to, I think, third in my list behind James and Reina.

I'm a fan of Hargreaves, but not sure he's good enough for a team like this. Similarly with Fabregas, he's clearly awesome, but to retain a balance for my 4-4-2 (my favoured formation, and at least we've gone for the same wingers) I needed someone who could tackle a guy weighin more than 10 stone.

I was trying to imply that wolves don't score many goals.
