Subject: Sheff Utd West Ham compensation

Oh and also I voted for Sour Grapes....imo we were punished very severely already, but we were punished and so that should be the end of it. I agree we should have been punished, and a fine of £5.5m compared to the previous record fine of £100k seems severe enough to me.

As a lifelong Sheffield Wednesday fan, I cannot possibly pass comment on the behaviour of Sheffield United.

Let's not forget the weakened team Liverpool fielded in the first game of the season against SU. Resting players for the Champions League.

Warnock was happy enough to get a point out of it and take advantage at the time.
Fast forward to the end of the season. Warnock was in the papers saying Benitez had more class than to rest players for the Champions League in the Fulham game. He did and Liverpool were outdone by a dodgy ref, gifting Fulham the 3 points.

A pathetic club that showed it's true grit against Arsenal's kids (that can't even win their own reserve league).

Well this is my point exactly, things like this are forgotten very quickly as it is convenient for them.

They are really doing themselves no favours imo.

I put this poll up just to get every bodys opinion i think its a fair poll thats why i put the sour grapes option in.As a Blades fan do you really expect me to agree with a West Ham fan over this matter if you do your being very naive. This whole sorry mess should have been dealt with much earlier in the season by the pl instead of at the end of the season.Imo West Ham should have been docked points 5.5 mill is no punishment when they are recieving 30 mill in the other hand for staying in the prem.Yes you might add we deserved to go down because ended 3rd from bottom but we didn't have 2 world class illegally signed players helping our course.I blame the pl for the situation now.If they had docked the points earlier in the season west ham may have stayed up and we may have gone down but there would no argument then. The weak pl have caused this whole situation imo.

I applaud kevin Mcabe for sticking two fingers up to the football world and digging his heals in for the sake of his football club.

Once again you Blades conveniently miss the point that he scored 1 goal in 19 for 2/3 of the season.....a major reason why we were so low down the table in the first place.

Oh and you say 2 world class players....well Mascherano never really played.

Plus what we did wrong is have a player where a 3rd party could influence things....yet again you skip the part about Kabba where you transferred a player and DEFINATELY influenced whether he could play against your team. Warnock even went on record in a press conference prior to the match saying he had checked it out and he would not be playing against you....as was arranged.

You say this is the premier Leagues fault, but you definately are not going after the Premier League......so I am assuming even though we have been punished you would like more punishment even though we have been punished....let me guess would 3 points have been enough for you?

Also do you not see the severity of a £5.5m fine against the other record fine Chelsea received for tapping up Ashley Cole of £100k?

dapoole has a valid point, the PL are a spineless bunch of middle management that should at least buy some cohones on Ebay...
2008-09-25 09:48:52
Yes maybe they dealt with it wrongly, but again....how is that our fault?
2008-09-25 09:55:50
It isn't, certainly not yours anyway. The problem stems from the fact that the result isn't fair. A few million quid is not a lot really for a Prem team but quite a lot for a Chumpionship one.

The FA should try to streamline this a bit too if they want to make the whole league more competitive. Sadly it has come to the point where you need a stupid squillionaire to buy the club so it can run at a loss but still fill the trophy room.

What has happened to our beautiful game?

It's gone for a bag of spanners, which is why i support oxford united. The ugly game. We are facing administration effectively pretty soon, as we do not own our stadium and pay £400k in rent per year. I club with fantastic fans and a colourful history, that played top flight football 22 years ago, on the verge of collapse.

Sad times.
2008-09-25 10:16:16
I made this point a few weeks ago in a different thread......the fact is I do not enjoy the top flight anymore. Nobody can compete.
2008-09-25 10:25:24
I bet you Manc City can next season...
2008-09-25 11:52:21
Yes but only because they now have more money than anybody else....and any player that goes there knows that....you see how much wages they will have to pay to attract players. All that does is make things worse for the fans imo.
