West Ham, always has been.....sometimes wish it wasn't though! lol

However once you support somebody then generally thats it, you are stuck with them.

indeed, Mighty Owls.

Oxford United "til i die", which'll hopefully be pretty soon sadly to put me out of my misery

Spurs fan, things look great at the moment!!!!!!
2008-09-26 11:06:25

Liverpool fan, which can never be under review!

Not really a fan of football, I prefer food. Hence Norwich City.

As I was chatting with fat-bloke-down-the-pub the other day, we decided that being a Toon fan must be tricky at the mo because you have no idea what team you are going to get, after 2 weeks the excitement of that wears off and you have had, what, 4 years of it? We thought being a fan of a crappier (on paper obviously) team would at least be more consistant. But then, he does support Millwall...

i mentioned this in another thread, but today's events have reinforced the question - though i will wait to see what happens when we change hands before deciding the answer...

what exactly are toon fans supposed to be supporting right now? its ok for those born or living in newcastle, that's easy, you support your home town. end of. but what about us fans who supported them just because they filled us with passion? i have supported them for 17 years, and stuck with them through relegation, so this is nothing to do with results. but i don't support the owner - he is a twunt. i don't support the players - if they doubled their effort they would still only be half-arsed. i don't support the manager - does Kinnear even count as a manager, or is he more hired as a baby sitter? after that, was is there left to support?

you support the ideal and the potential to realize that ideal. things get bad but they'll get better again, even if they relegate.

You speak the truth but I am still waiting for the Mighty Owls to play like they did in '93. I think I might be waiting for some time to come too. At least they still have beautiful gates at Hillsborough that make me smile when I go there.

yeah when the present fails there is always the past and the future to think about.
2008-09-26 21:36:32
for me the past is the past a few nearly years in the 70's,80's but since 2004 its pay back time(except last year)
2008-09-26 23:46:40
but surely the ideal is represented by the club/players/fans etc and frankly they are not ideal at all. and things are getting worse and have been for the last 17 years. what ideal? what potential? what other thing in your life would you apply that to? did anyone buy a skoda in the 90s on the basis that one day they might be bought by volkswagen?!?

The club and ethos you supported doesn't exist anymore. You just don't have the players for it.

When Ashley goes, very little will change. Although I suspect ticket prices will go up.
