1) I love it there
2) It has one of my favourite jungles in the world from a bio-diversity aspect.
3) It has one of the lowest population densities in the world
4) Hardly any of it is under human control - total escape is a reality here.
5) English speaking
6) Cheap
7) Politically stable apart from a war of words with Guatamala.

Pete Waterman would cost more than 100m. A telling reflection of todays society if ever there was one.
Interesting. I went there about 10 years ago. The diving was better than anywhere else I've ever been. My mum's husband has an island out there which they were building holiday villas on; but a hurricane blew it all down, so they gave up! I think he still has it (in partnership) but not sure anything's doing. When I went there we went from Belize City by 4x4 to Dangriga and then out to Tobacco Caye for a week or two. Nice. Unspoilt. Apart from the toilet that is - there were only two on the entire island and I nailed one of them straight off with a monster dump which couldn't be flushed as they had bugger all water. Good job the deed was done in the dead of night, eh. Also went out in the jungle for a few days with an ex-army chap and went swimming in lakes and rappelling/caving into antiquity-ridden stream-bisected ancient holes in the ground. Twas very good indeed.
