oh yes. in fact "not on the british package holiday itinerary" is one of my key criteria for booking a holiday. I find it best to avoid all locations that contain a fish & chip shop, a "The Lion" or "The Bulldog*" pub, or any irish bar**.

Try here if you haven't already. You can get a beer in there too as they have 2 licenses - that's pretty rare.

Anyway, to all the 'both sides' arguments referencing the Germans - all the tv coverage I saw was at great pains to point out it was a silence out of respect for all the war-dead, not just 'our' lot.

the Bulldogas are indeed crap, but they don;t stop me going to the 'dam in general. personally i prefer the Rembrands Plein area - more local night spots rather than tourist hell

edit: Joe's in the RP and the GrassHopper in the red light area both have double licences, as does some other place near all the banks

When i say impeccably, i looked down for the duration of the silence and thought about the millions who lost their lives. However, a lot of people looked around gormlessly, and the only audible noise turned out to be the scroll wheel on the boss man's mouse. Obsessed :-S

yep, them people probably dont know they are born, and they probably wouldnt have been born if it wasnt for those brave chaps who died for them. that is the sad thing
