Subject: Whisky
How do you drink it? I mean...to make it taste better than perfumes?!
I've tried Johnny Walker and Queen Margot. Both tasted hideously. Tried it with limon, with cola, with ice, without anything, with sips and with gulps and it's still revolting. I was always thinking about having a try with Whisky, after watching all those movies with ppl having such a pleasure while drinking. To be honest, I prefer vodka. Can't stand the scent of Whisky...
Not that anything was left though, not a single drop. That would be a waste. Even if it tastes badly, it's still an alcohol...

Whiskey tastes like warm hairspray, that's how it's supposed to taste and no amount of cola, ice or ambrosia of the gods will change that.
if you want to drink something that makes you look like a grizzled detective from a film-noir i suggest captain morgans dark rum, it's dark like whiskey but doesn't taste like some one has put their ball sweat into a glass and then farted in it for good measure
:) enjoy

O-M-F-G !!!
This is possibly the greatest travesty I have seen in these forums and I am amazed by the fact that none of the locals (ie league of gentlemen) has not yet risen to bite some heads off, chief amongst them that needs to be removed is Borkos'. One ignoranus (for those 'in the know') blabbers and a couple of groupies follow suit, shameful!
Whiskey in general and Scotch single malt is the most divine spirit on the face of this planet. For one Mr.Borkos, you never drank whiskey, for Jack Daniels is an American fast food version, Johnny Walker is an inferior blend which includes grain whiskey and Queen Margot is probably some cheap Co-op whiskey pretender.
Two, it's like explaining Ferrari to someone who has ridden only a tricycle he inherited from his 3 year old sister and other than the slight movie popularity that whiskey gained, it has earned its just reputation and centuries old love by billions because it is superb and is truly the Water of Life!
Whiskey, scotch single malt, must NOT, ever never be added lemon, ice or coke. A drop of water, preferably distilled and even better, local to the whiskey's distillery is best. One of the main components of the whiskey is its water - its hardness, added ingredients from the place it was gathered or travelled through. Whiskey glass is tulip shaped, somewhat akin to that of port and not the shortball/screwball, open wide American blasphemy type glasses.
There are so many other factors to make whiskey unique and fabulous that many people, and not necessarily alcoholics, spend life times dealing with, but a simple advice is... buy Scotch single malt and follow the instructions carefully. It's superb!

I have to agree with Rogi on this one.
Go here - Yummy!
Do as it says.
Then go here - Gerry's
Buy some Lagavulin 10+ years will do nicely, but there are very many to choose from.
Then go here - That's interesting...

Ok now, thank you. I was supposing it's similar as cheap wine and Wine but you never know...
On the other hand I, as a student, don't have sufficient funds to risk wasting a lot of money on a good whisky and then realising that it's still no good.
Then...what would you propose from the better quality whisky, but not so money diminishing...?
I remember one called Chivas Regal from one book.

I propose that Rog sends you a bottle of 10 year whiskey.

Alas, Chivas is also a blend.
Most whiskies sold around the world are blends, meaning that the few relatively (being the operative word here) good ones have a mixture of only single malts in them, eg Johnny Walker Green label or Blue label, and most of the others have grain whiskey and all other sorts of crap thrown in.
Your best source for single malts is usually a duty free shop in the nearest airport, however nowadays, online shopping can be just as good. I would recommend you start off with easier drinking single malts, preferably common classics such as GlenMorangie which are readily available in most pubs. Drink it neat with a couple of drops of water and follow the instructions found in jaize's link above.
As a student, don't feel bad about not experiencing the joys of fine single malts, as you still have plenty of time and I guess priorities lean towards getting drunk rather than expensive spirits.
The Islay whiskies are most difficult to drink for beginners, so until you develop a palate for whiskey, I would avoid the ultimate expressions of Laphroaig, Ardbeg and the others.
Good luck :)

Thanks again, will try to get down to 5 cigs a day, so that I'll probably be able to get a good one to taste.
But NCN's idea is good as well. ;)

BTW, if you are a smoker, you chance to enjoy fine scotch is diminished tremendously because the cigarettes ruin the taste buds. The only thing you can do is, don't smoke a couple of hours before drinking, brush your teeth two hours before drinking and 10 minutes before touching the scotch, eat some dry, flavourless dry bread but not toast.
I also wish for a 10 year whiskey, at least a bottle that would last that long. :)

Unopened, a whiskey bottle can maintain its contents pure and wholesome for some 100 years, which makes it a preferable investment to wine and most other spirits. Once you open it, a decent single malt should be consumed within a couple of months else it also starts deteriorating.
As far as paint strippers are concerned, it seems you must consult with Borkos about Queen Margot which sounds like the ticket for stripping paint.
