I have thought to myself about UK politicians and non seem to have any bit of charisma; why I wonder? I thought it was basic requirement of leaders to have a bit of charisma.

you have misunderstood politics. if you have an opinion about anything at all and tell people about it, others can argue against it. If you never commit to anything then you can never get people arguing with you! This is why we have faceless, grey politicians at the fore nowadays.
