Need this checked guys...I'm having the most important exam in my life insofar, thus I'd like to have everything prepared...I'm having just one go at the English fluency exam, so I better do at least decent...:/ For the record, I'm getting examed by a Welsh guy...just love his accent and attitude...NOT...

In my research I have shown and described the issue of connection between gender and learning abilities of a person. I have also included the causes and consequences of it. The topic is interesting because it shows us how different men and women are when it goes to intellectual abilities. It gives us information on how dissimilar our approach towards teaching males and females should be.
Men and women think in different ways, and have different virtues concerning intelligence. Men are better at visual-spatial items, while women are superior at verbal items. This has an impact on school achievements of a member of particular gender, but it does not make any of the sexes more intelligent, the average IQ level of them is similar. Men are more likely to reach the top or worst spots, while women have tendency to achieve the level between those extremities. It is also interesting that the differences are dissimilar in various societies. The crucial information is that both visual-spatial and verbal abilities can be improved by training.
Gender has also an impact on the career route that a person chooses. Risky men as opposed to women search for prestigious, but unstable. It is a matter of men’s higher motivation and lower fear of success.
The differences should be taken into consideration when preparing tests and curriculums, otherwise they might be gender-biased. We should adjust lessons to each gender in order to achieve the best result of teaching.

Thanks in advance...

and one more question:

boredom

It is boring

ennui

It is ennuious? ennuing?

ennui : A gripping listlessness or melancholia caused by boredom; depression.

Being bored evokes a sense of ennui. Ennui-ing isn't a word though. Probably because it's a french word.

For the record, I'm getting examed by a Welsh guy...just love his accent and attitude...NOT...

Its unfortunate he wasnt Scottish - a twenty pack of fags, fish supper and a crate of lager would have got you your pass on day one.

p.s. half of what you are asking i have no idea....no in fact make that 95%. Silly language English :D

Well I know what ennui means, but is it the only form of this word? How do you say: "I reckon that it is *ennui*"

And yeah, it's from French...

Well I hope I know enough...I'm supposed to use sophisticated vocabulary etc. so...:/

Just getting through my list of 1000 sophisticated words...

You did good! Just a couple of changes need in my opinion. ;-)
2009-09-03 22:05:22
That is exactly how you say, "I reckon that it is ennui"
2009-09-03 22:11:23
Ok, so in this case I would write it like:

"The women might consider it ennui, thus they might choose other educational route"

?

And thanks for proofreading :)
2009-09-03 22:16:34
Whilst correct, ennui is too strong a word for that context. Try, "The women might consider it uninteresting and therefore choose another educational direction."

"The women might consider it uninteresting and therefore choose another educational direction."

Shouldnt that really read

"The women might consider it uninteresting, therefore choosing another educational direction."
2009-09-03 22:18:45
Yeah, I was just trying to provide some sophisticated words for the questions that I can get...:) Well I guess I'll just leave ennui alone, it's better to use a common word in proper meaning and context than to try to impress, and get busted for wrong usage...:)

one more question, can 'one-to-million-shot' be used in formal writing/speaking?
2009-09-03 22:19:56
no, but one in a million can. ;-)
