It is a frantic idea

can frantic be used in this context, or is it only about the mental condition of a person?
2009-09-03 22:52:36
it could sort of be used like that but frantic is a state of mind really

you can call a film frantic perhaps if it gives you the feeling of rush/panic/anxiety that frantic describes - it's harder to imagine an idea that would make you feel frantic

"The women might consider it ennui, thus they might choose other educational route"

this sentence makes little sense because ennui refers very specifically to a feeling of listless boredom

you might say

"The women might consider the method would make them feel ennui, thus they might choose other educational route"

but frankly ennui is a poncy word and using it about non-poncy people or situations makes you sound foolish

ie "the literary critic felt deep ennui" could work but "the coalminer felt ennui" doesn't

Hehe ok :) I'm quite bad when it goes to using proper prepositions...

anyway, oral exam went fine, I was expecting that it'll be harder...now one more left to go tomorrow, though this one will consist of 3 parts, in total...5 hours
2009-09-04 12:08:43
speaking English for 5 hours should be seen as a trip to the pub...
2009-09-04 12:15:22
It's rather writing, listening and reading. Oral was today :)
2009-09-04 15:26:16
sounds crap only getting oral once...
2009-09-04 15:36:04
Depends on what comes next ;)

"The women might consider it uninteresting and therefore choose another educational direction."

Shouldnt that really read

"The women might consider it uninteresting, therefore choosing another educational direction."

No. It should read "The women might consider it uninteresting and therefore choose to go back in the kitchen."

Why can't they go forward? Are they as dysfunctional as French tanks during the WW II?
2009-09-05 14:50:08
no, they like to bake lovely scones.
