Subject: Championship - Who is going down ?

2009-04-14 15:50:58
Squeaky bum time in the championship with 3 or 4 games left for the bottom teams. Plymouth look relatively safe on 50 points, which leaves my lot, Barnsley. Redjim and Fmans\' Notts Forest looking over the cliff.

Assuming Southampton are down, as they are bound to pick up some kind of penalty for administration, which of these three will join them ?

exciting isn't it?

I make it Barnsley to finish on 47, with Naaaarch and Forest safe on 49. Probably a fair representation of the seasons results too. I would say only the top 8 have performed creditably over the long term.

im hoping norwich, just cz its the furthest away for me to go if newcastle go down ;)

head says it will be barnsley going down though

exciting isn't it?

A lot of Norwich fans are complaining about the amount of "excitement" - they like quiet mid-table mediocrity here.

I've gone with Barnsley, the other 2 look like they can win games at the moment.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised to see S'ton stay up and plymouth go down.

Plymouth have 50 points, at the moment it looks like a big jump for 3 of Barnsley Forest, Norwich and Southampton in the remaining games. And I think Soton will end up being deducted points too. Plymouth were poor when they came to us though. Coventry have yet to play Barnsley and Forest, being mid-table, nothing to play for, and could do both teams a huge favour.

As Glen Roeder was at Norwich they were doomed to go down this season no matter what. ;)

sad. but probably true.
2009-04-14 21:26:16
Sorry.....

You're eighteen months late, I told ncn what would happen with Roeder in charge, possibly on the day of his appointment.

LOL no I am not, I said on Day 1 he was a disaster but only in his first full season in charge.....Nostrodamus I am. ;)
2009-04-14 22:42:14
i hope notts forest but it will be barnsley
2009-04-14 23:37:40
Notts Forest are playing Soton on the last game of the season. I hope it doesn't come to that. Earnshaw and Blackstock are scoring for us at the moment though, so fingers crossed. If we go down I might have to become a Nottingham County supporter. Away you rams and all that.

I was just about to ask about blackstock, glad he's scoring already. He could be a key player for you and i'm sure forest will be fine. Did i see that wolves are actually top of the league? Is it still mathematically possible for them to finish 7th?

Wolves finish 7th? Nah, the worst they could do is 4th and they'd need to fail to win a game to manage that.

With QPR, Barnsley & Doncaster left - just one win and their probably champions on GD...

Barnsley v Wolverhampton, 15:00

Monday, 27 April 2009

Norwich v Reading, 19:45

Sunday, 3 May 2009

Charlton v Norwich, 13:15
Nottm Forest v Southampton, 13:15
Plymouth v Barnsley, 13:15

Sky being the sadistic gets they are, they are showing the Norwich - Reading match 2 days after the other games. Norwich could be safe going into that match, but it's not looking likely. A few Norwich fans seem to be of the opinion that Coventry only exist to **** them off after the 1986 farce, when Cov had 3 games in hand to play after the fixture list was otherwise ended, had to win all 3, and did so as the other teams had zilch to play for. On that basis, I expect Cov to roll over and play dead as they did at Plymouth on Saturday, gifting Forest and Barnsley 3 points. Forest also have Blackpool who will be safe by then, but are good at home. Wolves may be promoted by the time they play Barnsley, so that might be party / eye off the ball time for them. This basically means that Norwich need to win either the Reading (we're always rubbish on telly) or the Ipswich matches at least. Charlton are already down, but the last time Norwich played a team in a last day survival match when the other team had nothing to play for was at Fulham - we got tonked 6-0. So In 3000 words or less, I'm not hopeful for our survival...
