Subject: Standard rate of inflation
the breakdown cannot be 50/50
It is 50/50 either side of the median. By definition.

my company used to make pay rises every january.
This year, for the first time, pay rises are to be done from 1st May.
Therefore as we go 16 months between rises they promised to pay us 16/12 extra over a normal rise.
My rise was0%.
Therefore 0% x 16/12.....
Not impressed. Although happier to have no rise, than no job....

did you at least get a pay rise in line with inflation?
that seems to be how it is at the moment. the company i work for went into a CVA last Feb. I got a 20% rise for becoming a manager 2 years ago, but other than that haven't had a rise since 2002. If I were to work it out, I'm sure I would be earning less in real terms than I was when I started. But the 20 year old who has been with us for 2 years is on practically a minimum wage, so if we ever get to a position where we could consider rises (I'm being paid on the 5th of next month when it should be the last day of the month because of cash flow problems as things stand), he would be getting one before me as he now does the job better than I do.
all sounds encouraging for your future then!
Nah, we're screwed, it's just a matter of when really. In the mean time I stay in my job because it seems to be better paid than most development jobs in norfolk. Both of them.
Excitingly, I've just found out my pay rise for this year. A whopping 1.97%. Allegedly that makes me one of the biggest winners as HR claims awards ranged from 0 to 2%.
Which is odd since I know that at least two people received 5%..
Why do HR have to lie about everything? MFingMFers.

I suppose I should be grateful to have both a job and one that will pay a few pennies more this year.
The people that got 5% - do they have a new job title - effectively a promotion ?
Probably. I've been with British Gas for nearly a year now, and i'm still a temp. The way they handle staff here is shocking, especially consdiering all this "Best Big Company to Work for" ball ox you see in the press. I was meant to turn full time in January but they keep stalling. We have some temporary credit controllers that know what they're doing and do it well but they just advertised their positions externally.
How much of a downer is that for the other guys?
I'm the only person that does what i do in the office, and get paid £13 per hour. It's the only reason i'm here considering how easy it is and that i blag all my lunches paid.
edit: some of our customer facing Account Manager's are on just £15k per year, fairly shocking really.
