wdp74 to All
I have an Ipod and use I-tunes to load, download songs etc.

I also have another I-pod which I plan to use in my car, does anybody know if I can use both with my current I-tunes software?

I am worried I will lose my songs etc if I plug in the other one.

Cheers in advance. :)

There is a way. I'll have a fiddle, see if I can remember how to do it.

you have to manually manage your playlists.

set up 2 different playlists, one for each, say wdp old man music and brass band specials.

then,

Open iTunes and click on ‘Users iPod’ under ‘Devices’ on the left hand side of iTunes user interface.

Click on 'Summary' and you will see the details of your iPod, its 'Version' and 'Options'. Under 'Options' check the box that says 'Manually manage music'.

A dialog box will appear saying that “are you sure you want to manually manage music and videos on your iPod” in which you should click 'OK'.

Make sure you do this for both of them. Obviously do one totally before connecting the other. The only downside is that you have to manually eject the ipod each time.

My wife bought an i-pod nano after i already had one. If memory serves... we both use the same i-tunes software with no problems.

I'm pretty sure you can have 2 or more i-pods sharing the same i-tunes software (and music collection) providing they're both registered to that i-tunes when they're set-up.

My brother tried to dock his i-pod with my i-tunes software - to borrow some tracks in a non-piracy kind of way ;) - and i-tunes threw a wobbly because it detected he had tracks on his i-pod that weren't in my i-tunes.

now thats my problem.

If i've synced my ipod on 1 computer but dock it on another, how do i not lose all my songs and start using the i-tunes on the new computer to add new songs?

I don't think you can legitimately - you have to wipe the i-pod to start uploading from i-tunes on another computer (than it happens again when you go back to the original computer).

However, there is software you can get that takes a copy of the tracks on your i-pod. Don't know how you put them back on etc. and rather unhelpfully I can't remember what it's called....

as above. change it to manually update.

I presume this will only work for buying new tracks from the i-tunes shop, rather than copying songs already downloaded on to the computer?

it shouldn't make any difference. it basically detatches the update thingy that helpfully wipes your i-pod with each different machine. just remember to change the settings on the PC first.

cool - I'll be testing it tonight :)
