we are not america so it doesn't work like that. Brown was elected to his constituency same way as Blair. We vote for constituancy members, and the number of seats determins the lead party in government. We do not now nor have we ever elected a Prime Minister.

the thing about the british voters is that we vote negatively instead of positively. conservatives will win this time not because we want them, but because after 12 years we are fed up of labour who failed in their promises. since all parties fail in their promises, and the voting public on the whole does not really understand politics and the economy etc, this is inevitable. Unless you can throw in a popular war like the Falklands - and that was so very 80s - 12 years is the most any party will get.

As for the royal family, since it has been proven that they "earn" the country approx. 5 times more in tourist income than we spend on them these days, fair play, I am happy to keep them.

Besides, our (germany's and greece's) royal family is one of the things that makes us British!
