Hello all, I’m currently selling my house and will be looking at moving home shortly, wanting to buy before the market picks up anymore. We currently live in Eastleigh, near Southampton, which is a hole. We have no idea where to go..other than out of Eastleigh.

Realistically it needs to be within an hours drive of Basingstoke (for work).

Ideally I’d like to live by or at least near to the sea…but will likely have to compromise pretty hard as things are made more tricky by us needing a 4 bed house with a garden larger than a postage stamp due to hoards of children and a dog and only having around 220K to do it!

If anyone lives in (or has some knowledge of) or could give me the low down on any of these locations,

Fareham
Locks heath
Andover
Portsmouth & surrounding areas
Swindon – why is it so cheap? I’m picturing grimness…

or suggest any others that combine fairly cheap house prices with decent amenities and a lower than average chav quota that’d be great..

cheers :-)

I should able to give you some valid input. Cross Swindon off your list.

There.

Succinct...thanks for that ;-)

To be fair, I've never been..the wife has and didn't remember it fondly.. I was swayed by the incredibly cheap house prices..

if you're looking at fareham you're practically on the doorstep of the new forest. I'd imagine it would be expensive to look any further west, although there are some lovely places around there. If it wasn't too far, I'd suggest Milford, but looking at the map it's probably too far, and maybe too expensive.

There, that was not exactly helpful, was it ? :)

Better than jimmy though - cheers!

Pffft. At least i was convincing!
to be fair, i don't really know the area, except for holidays (3 weeks in the last 2 years, a 4th week soon) - if it were me, i'd be trying to get a place as close to bournemouth / new forest as possible - great for walks with the kids.

im actually surprised, 220k when i lived in basingstoke would have bought you a wheelie bin
