Fifa have banned Chelsea from registering any new players in the next two transfer windows.
The world's governing body have handed down the punishment after French clubs Lens made an official complaint over Chelsea's signing of their young player Gael Kakuta in 2007.
Fifa's Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) has now found in Lens' favour and ruled that the Blues are 'jointly and severally liable'.
As such, the Stamford Bridge club have been banned from signing players over the next two transfer windows, which means they will not be able to bring in any new faces until 2011.
Kakuta, a regular in Chelsea's reserve side, has also been banned from playing for the next four months and fined £680,000.
Chelsea will have to pay Lens £113,000 in compensation.
Wow. Even as a Manchester United fan I think thats over the top.
Oh well.

If the ban sticks, when they reach 2011, Lampard and Terry and co will be old and they'll have to buy loads more players. Now I hope they look into Man City. :)
Hopefully we can start training some of our youngsters now. We used to thrive on young players, not foreign ones.
yep, i see chelsea recalling some of their loanees if some players ge tinjured ;)
tell you what. If i was one of the super stars in that chelsea team right now i would be ringing my agent to get me more money or else tell the club i wish to leave :D What choice do they have - AYE GO there is no way your getting more money we can just buy in erm erm erm 600k per week Mr lampard any good for you? :D

actually see now my head is starting to thaw out - that goes against the fair trade act and some other thousands of employment acts. FIFA have no chance of enforcing this rule.
none whatsoever, you know that, I know that, Chelsea's lawyers and Abramovic's hitmen know that but Chelsea fans don't.
Hilarious.
Hilarious.
You have to remember that in charge is the xenophobic Blatter and his cohorts - there is only one bigger twunt in footie and that is Mohammed Fayed. Oh and lots of other more minor er, twuntettes.
FIFA have enforced the rule on at least two other occasions, though. Roma (although there's was reduced to one transfer window) and FC Sion, that well known Swiss outfit. There's is the more recent, and stayed at two windows, I believe.
lol :)
i think the ban lenght will be reduced.. though the fact its getting such headlines, it will definately last a while, if fifa back down now, clubs will feel that it doesnt have the power to enforce the transfer laws that they created... which will lead to them being more widely broken
there is talk of more being created in future now for the transfers of U16 players or something
