Subject: South Africa 2010 - Who would you choose...

2009-09-09 23:39:58
KwaZulu [del] to All
...As your starting 11?

I'm not going to ask you to name an entire squad to take to South Africa now that we have qualified, but just to name your best starting 11?

I would choose...

GK Robert Green

RB Glen Johnson
CB John Terry
CB Rio Ferdinand
LB Ashley Cole

RM Aaron Lennon
CM Steven Gerrard
CM Frank Lampard
LM Ashley Young

ST Wayne Rooney
ST Jermain Defoe

Barry definately needs to be in that 11, he keeps it simple and breaks things up, he is the main reason Gerrard and Lampard have looked better together imo.

I though Green was so unlucky tonight to concede that goal, two great saves and the defenders just stood still.....for me he should be our No.1 now.

indeed!
2009-09-10 00:06:12
That would be your complete, unbiased opinion. Right? ;-)

I sort of feel (as in the gap between innings in the cricket today) that a squad is a better indicator, actually. Do we really want to spend half an hour debating the relative merits of Heskey v Defoe, when in reality we'd probably both bring them both?

Anyway, threadstarters do have some cache here, so:

James; Johnson, Terry, Rio, Cole; Lennon, Gerrard, Barry, Milner; Rooney, Carlton Cole!

If Hargreaves ever gets fit Barry can go back to being his understudy - but 1 of them needs to play
2009-09-10 00:12:54
Correct I have never supported Man City. :)
2009-09-10 00:13:55
I much prefer Barry to Hargreaves.
2009-09-10 00:15:26
No Lampard?
2009-09-10 00:17:12
why david james? he is too unprodictable and is gettin old.
2009-09-10 00:17:14
Correct, although he'd be in my squad. Like I said, a squad is more indicative (and in a way more boring) because we'd probably be almost all in agreement. A squad of 23, for example, would traditionally have three keepers and two of everything else. Who would suggest Lamps wouldn't be one of the best four central midfielders eligible to play for England?
2009-09-10 00:17:27
I prodict he'd save some goals.
2009-09-10 00:18:00
robbie green would save more goals than thee.
2009-09-10 00:19:21
I'm not suggesting I should go.

Show me something convincing that suggests that Green would save more than James.

I think Green is way more consistent, which is a vital element to goalkeeping...

edit: So on that note, 3 goalkeepers... James, Green and...? (I think not Robinson)
