Subject: world cup draw!!

2009-12-05 10:48:33
could we have actually got an easier draw?
The only downside i got from it is that we will play 2nd from group D which was maybe the strongest group

Agreed on the group draw, but in the 2nd round I'd prefer anyone in group D over the 2 teams that survive group G.
North Korea aside, I don't think Germany, Serbia, Ghana and Australia compare favourably with Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast.

could we have actually got an easier draw?

Well, yes we could. USA were the best team in their pot. Other than that, we should top the group easily.

I think Group G will be the one with the best matches.

England will no doubt get through the table stage and then get knocked out by a penalty shoot-out...

Watch this space......

You're making it sound as likely as Algeria winning it?!
2009-12-07 23:49:05
Lets not kid ourselves about the England team mate....Unless the other big teams get injuries then we have about as much chance of winning it as Sheffield wednesday winning the Champions league.

.....Wait for Jaize to reply on this one.....

Errr, not the best analogy...

England have actually qualified for the world cup finals so, statistically speaking, have a chance of winning (however small). Whereas, for Sheffield Wednesday... lets just say they need to get in to the Premiership first ;)

Besides, what about South Korea and Turkey in the semis in 2002, or Sweden and Bulgaria in 1994. I guess you thought these were likely before the event? As the saying goes 'that's why the games aren't played on paper...'

England will get to the quarters - usually, I expect no different this time
If we could win shoot outs then we could get to the semis regularly
We're not good enough to do better without outrageous luck

Sorry it was just a dig at Jaize...

I do think it will be a great world cup and your right some other teams have just as much chance to shine.

But looking at your arguement, does that mean you feel teams such as New Zealand have as much chance to win it as say Spain?

Possible but not many would put a bet on them.
2009-12-08 00:13:10
Agreed. Our media, bless them, do tend to overhype our chances just a tad, but we do have a solid world cup record. If only England were better at that scoring from 12 yards bit.
2009-12-08 00:15:19
Very true mate....We do have some fine players in the team..World class in fact and if the could only display that against the top sides in the world it would give us more faith in them.

England have been told to take Viagra!
2009-12-08 11:37:00
Yeah a bit hard to explain this one.....

I get 100s of messages like that every day - they should employ a spam filter.
