Really, the England team have been told to take Viagra to increase lung capacity!
But that would hurt anyway. And wouldn't that technically be a performance enhancing drug ?
@turricantg - shut it - obviously the Mighty Owls will not win or even get to the Champions League, but I am not sure that has anything to do with this subject.
England will do OK as we have a good enough team to reach the last 8 as usual, although there is a chance we will meet the Germans in the first knockout game...
The problem is that we haven't got a good enough team across the board, or strength in depth. We do however have good possibilities as the French, Italians and German are all old and the Spanish, whilst finally showing their potential are a bit like the Dutch and always end up fighting amongst themselves at the slightest sign of trouble.
As usual it should be a fun fortnight of silly footie followed by a fortnight of anguish, dissappointment and a sprinkle of glory for Spain (probably).

meh, i dont see why you're all saying we wont get past the quarters without outrageous luck. We've only been knocked out on penalties for most of the championships, which shows we're as good as the team who beat us during normal time. We were skanked with the Campbell goal that was disallowed and skanked when ronaldo cheated like a little gay. Brazil got lucky in 02, Beckham cost us against, Maradona cheated us and then there's all the times we've lost on peno's.
I'd look at it the other way and say we've only not won it more, because we've been outrageously unlucky :)

It's not luck though aston, it's been a lack of a winning mentality, the willingness to do slightly more than the other blokes. Now that we have players, over the last 4 years, who have played in the later stages of the champions league, such as Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand, will that change ? Dunno. They've not done it at this level so far.

The England I watched were great ...until we took the lead. Then we sat deeper and deeper inviting Brazil on. With eventually, the entire England team bottling it (after they equalised), no longer believing we could win.
Luck plays no part once you stop believing in yourself - The England team of the last decade has comprised of talented, but ultimately feckless individuals.
