Subject: Liverpool
it really is all to do with the manager im afraid. Liverpool dont go forward quick enough now - when they get the ball they allow the opposition to fall into 2 banks of 4 before they start to think about passing through them. I say through them as currently their full backs have been offering nothing going forward - not even an overlap dummy run is coming down those flanks so everything pushes through the middle.
Very bad tactics which, im afraid, falls entirely onto rafas boots.

No bad managers win the champions league. But whether it's bad tactics, bad communication of the tactics, or the players not following the lead of the manager, he probably has outstayed his time in the job.
Liverpool were more open in their play at the start of the season I think, but were losing games because of this. The fact that they are playing through the middle shows that Rafa has attempted to control games more, but if you aren't getting the players up for the matches, you won't win games no matter how you play.

Wigan were quick, oppressive and very physical, not allowing the nancy boys (bar Mascherano and Carragher) to develop their style of 'flowing' football. You could see the frustration on Torres and his mates' faces... and behaviour. The ref should have issued a few more cards to Wigan players for their over-the-top aggressiveness yet still all that does not absolve the Liverpool players from their dismal performance.
I have claimed from the beginning of the season that Benitez should be ousted. Liverpool has a very decent cadre of players playing in several nations' NTs. No reason why they are doing so poorly other than poor leadership, ie management. Bring in Mark Hughes or even that Dutch guy from the Russian NT... or maybe Michael Owen... he's busted anyhow. ;-)

I think the main problem with removing Rafa is the length of his contract, I heard it was for 5 years or something. With the debt Liverpool have, could they actually afford to pay it off ?

no. which is why he is still there at the moment...
I think they would bite some other teams arms off if there was an enquiry for him.

Well, that won't happen either, who else could afford his wages ! ;)

Zonal marking. HOW LONG WILL RAFA TAKE TO REALISE IT DOESN'T WORK??
god I want Rafa's job so badly. I mean come on! He gets paid(ridiculously I might add) for doing such a crap job.
If I were to do a crap job at my place, I'd get canned within a week!

I guess L'Pool and Juventus are having a similar season, though Juve has bigger chance to qualify for CL. Tragic league, tragic National Cup, tragic CL, now only European League left...
Would be interesting if the final was Pool vs Juve. Would be a bit hard to keep all the people alive I guess...

It's who you know, not what you know - although he did win champions of europe...
It works perfectly if the other team is Zonal Attacking in the same positions.
I refer you to Napoleons' requirement for "lucky generals"...
I must admit i am a rafa fan, he hasn't had massive amounts of cash to work with whereas spurs and man city have had 200 million plus over the past couple os seasons so the gap is obviously going to be closed.
His big money signing have been Torres, one of the best strikers in the world (when fit) and masha who is one of the best defensive middys in the world. The main error he has made is selling alonso. His passing ability he could strech teams instantly with killer long balls whereas now lucas seems content playing 5-10 yard balls giving teams more time to get the usual 2 banks of 4 in place.
