totally agree.
more so at Prem level than other divisions you need a team to play a team game, if Gerrard wasn't a scouser, Liverpool would have become a "sleeping giant" years ago.
Not sure how they stop the rot though, they need an Abramovic, someone rich enough to pile in the wedge and so rich a few extra hundred million here and there isn't too much of a problem. Not too many of those chaps/chapesses about...
Personally speaking having the balls to capitalise on their stars and getting talent to take over would be good but I am not sure Rafa has the cojones or clout to be able to do that. I expect some twunt upstairs has said the selling Stevie is a no go area...
Sad really but like the pig derby, it is only fair to give the other team in town a go! ;-)

And who on earth would want to take on the debts that Gillette and Hicks have made to leverage their purchase of the club in the first place ? The only bloke rich / daft enough already owns Man City.

Thats not true mate, I would say that most clubs have a debt when they are sold.
Liverpool is a investment and a new owner would know this and just pay of what debt they have.
What this does show is that the Americans are crap at owning our teams.....They should stick to exciting sports like....Baseball....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Most clubs do not have a £350 million debt with £36.5 million per year in interest payments, mainly created by the owners to enable them to buy the club with future earnings from fans. link here if you're interested
With that said, there is speculation that a Chinese bidder might be interested. The new Liverpool chairman is "confident that a deal can be done before the end of the year and he asked supporters to be patient.". We'll have to wait and see.

i disagree that buying into everton would be good for england overall, you have seen what happened to manchester city's amazing academy, foreighners were bought and onouah, johnson, evans, richards and hart dont get a look in.
liverpool have produced nobody since warnock, so investment wouldnt hurt the reds.

I wasn't really suggesting Everton would be a good investment, just making a point about the cycles of football...
