"Look, no money now. Probably won't buy anyone half-decent, so what's the point in talking about it. We'll keep Hughton cause he has his contract till the end of next season, even though he is rubbish. We will probably sack him after first ten rounds anyway. And yeah, we will make this club great and try to win something at last, but it's not going to happen in this decade - but that's no surprise for ya' lot, right?"
The first team squad that won the Championship this year will form the basis of the team for next season in the Premier League. There is no plan for new capital outlay on players.
They will go straight back down again, as they're doing a Burnley. But if they do they will probably get parachute payments for 4 years, once the Football league agrees to sell its soul. What they're saying I guess is that if a player leaves, they will be replaced on like for like money.

nice to see a bit of honesty from the board. I'm happy with that tbh, chopping and changing everything so often is where we've gone worng in the past. Dont really need any new players imo, perhaps an out and out goalscorer proven at PL level and a full back, but i honestly think we'll be fine with the team spirit/cohesion we have atm alone (as birmingham have done this season) and then theres fort sports direct.com as well. Wolves, WBA, west ham, bolton, playoff winner, wigan and sunderland are all teams we should be looking to beat at home and get a result away.
Come on aston, seriously. Part of the team is fine, but most of it...I don't know your opinion, but I would prefer staying in Championship instead of forthcoming being smacked by United of Chelski by 4-5 goals. The gk is fine, the centre of midfield is fine[unless Joey B. will start having fun again]. But defence? Colo-Colo was decent in this season, but do you remember his appearances in Prem? Taylor is worse than 3 seasons ago in my opinion. And don't get me started on the strikers...Carroll? He is fine, but I would sell him as soon as anybody would give a proper offer for him[5M?]. Ameobi is a f. disgrace, as Didi Drogba would've said. Lovenkrands is the one and only solid striker in the team. But still, compare him to Martins...
The team is no stronger than when we were going down, and it really makes me wonder how is it possible. If we won't buy a proper striker[Jones from Sunderland would be a first teamer I guess] we won't get any results. Also, we still don't have any playmaker in the team. Plus, people get overenjoed by Gutierrez - ok, he is a fine, but nothing special. He had maybe 3 or 4 good games in the Prem. I don't think that it's enough...
All in all, it's a great team for Championship, but lacks personalities to be anything in the Premiership. If we won't start spending, we will never retain what Newcastle was before.

sw phillips out of contract in the summer, i would get him on a free.
He would be top 5 of Newcastle players if it would happen. Still, I think he will get a better offer from the likes of Fulham or so.
i dont see why not, and even joe cole, out of contract.
id buy somebody like jack hobbs from leicester, ive followed him since he was at liverpool, rafa was a fool to let him go, real premiership quality player. :)

Sorry for looking at this without newcastle specs but, surely cole and phillips are too big for them? :-S
hmm indeed, but money can do things to players, especially seeing they are guarenteed first team football there, and guitierrez cant put a good ball in to save his life :)
The problem is, that it appears that Newcastle board are going to do it the good ol' Scrooge McDuck style ;-)
But compare our squad with the likes of Wolves, Stoke, West Ham, WBA and we have a much better squad imo. The PL has turned into 2 leagues really with the top 8 and the rest, i dont think there's many of the rest that are clearly better than us. Burnley only went down by 3 or 4 points and you look at their squad, its pants. Team spirit, cohesion, stability, manager and fans count for a lot more down the bottom and we have that in abundance now. We dont need to be able to compete with chelsea and man u, just the cack at the bottom.
Beckfords out of contract too. Heard something about Taylor and Puyol being considered for a swap deal, which seems incredibly strange.

West Hams squad will be vastly different next season, either in a good or bad way. lol
