Bloke who is a journo reckons he has the inside track on this on another forum I frequent :
"There is talk that someone is going to come in and buy the club and wants Houghton out before they come in, which stops the new owners first action to be sacking a popular manager.
In the club statement they say that Newcastle are looking for a "transitional arrangement" before appointing an experienced manager."

As a fan, is it worth losing Hughton to get rid of Ashley ?
well, not really now. If that is true, i know about and will dislike the new guy, as will the rest of the geordie nation, so its pointless and the new guy will be a cock as well, but added to that he's a coward.
If they've got rid of Hughton, they must have someone pretty amazing lined up to replace him. Who would the new manager need to be to win you over ?

I can't believe it! Hughton has been the best Toon manager since Robson, and no Geordie is going to tell me otherwise. Hughton has beaten Chelsea, Arsenal, SUNDERLAND 5-1!!!
