Subject: British elections
I saw that too!
re-read it and change anti-immigration to anti-black. I am assuming she won't be living in South London. Since the BNP did exactly as well as they should have, maybe she won't be able to "help" them out.
(although 500,000 people did vote BNP over the whole country)

I remember reading it in the Guardian while in the tube, made me laugh so hard that people started staring at me ;)
this... (although 500,000 people did vote BNP over the whole country) ...in a nutshell, is my concern with most 'true' forms of PR - giving extremists a platform and further legitimacy.
so there are half a million racist bigoted men and women in this country, but no seat for them wheeey! :)
0.5 million out of 62 million is like a statistical error, so...:) also it's nice that only 500k voted for them, Poland is more fusty on this issue I'm afraid...not really the politicians[although most of the parties are homophobic] but the society itself has some tolerance issues, especially in villages.
btw it's pretty funny that the people who are the biggest opponents of other races/beliefs/sexual choice are those who haven't met them even once during their life? Maybe they just visualise gay people or black people as the devil himself, not a human organism like themselves...

its all down to education and life experience, and also if you just so happen to be born evil... :O
just over half a million votes out of just under 30 million who bothered to voted, so nearly a 2% share - means they'd have got 12 seats under pure PR!
Right, I've forgotten that not everyone decided to move their ass to the voting spot, my bad.
i bothered :) i care about the future of this country so that posh chap dosent get in and kill all the lovely foxes and rise taxes for the poor and take away childerens milk, and take students EMA etc etc....
Do you have any political party that is worth anything? I read only Guardian[the weekly edition] and well, to be honest I've chosen Guardian mostly because the weekly edition has a decent pages/price ratio...and because I like to disagree with what I read. Therefore as I'm used to reading only one side of the British politics idea, I'd like to know how it really looks in GB :)
Because in Poland...well it looks like this - we have a pseudo right wing party, Prawo i Sprawiedliwość[Law&Justice], pseudo because even though they are real right side when it goes to tolerance, religion and in general society issues, when it goes to economy they are socialists at their best. We also have Platforma Obywatelska[Civic Platform] who are right sided, but not in 100%. I mean, they are liberal in economy, but still quite conservative in social issues...also...well their main weakness is that they tend to care about the rich guys, but not the whole society. We also have Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej[Democratic Left Alliance] who are...well, socialists who argue all the time within their party. Also they are prostitutes a bit because they want to make an alliance with everyone, though on one wants to talk to them unless they need their votes from time to time.
It's really hard to choose a political party in Poland. In general you don't vote for the party that you support, but against the party that you hate.

But people were in the main using a vote for them as a protest, because they knew that they wouldn't get in. If there was a danger that they were going to actually get seats, then most people wouldn't vote for them. I consider that having a ruling party decided by 35-40% of the electorate is more dangerous to be honest.
am agree
I want PR but will never see it in my lifetime unless Clegg does an Obama and hypnotises British politics.
Under PR the BNP may get a few seats, but whilst I will form my own opinions about those voters, I will also support any system that allows them to have these opinions, or any other without persecution (being spat on by kids doesn't count!)
