Subject: your england first 11

2010-06-02 19:15:50
But our nationalist pride won't let us, as we have it ingrained that England WILL win the cup this year, and can't shake it.

On that subject, a friends' dad changed his lottery numbers because they weren't 'lucky'
Two weeks later (this Saturday, I think), those old numbers came up.
That's a fail :P

EPIC.. lol he must have been tearing his hair out.

I bet in Brazil you would get much kinder odds on an England win.

By the way most countries REALLY DO fear this England side. If we click and our big players have big games then we will be a team to fear.....however its a big IF and Spain for me will be extremely hard to beat imo. I mean Torres has been rested all season hasn't he.

You know why most countries fear England coach? Because of our HYPE.. inevitably in the end we can never perform as much as the 'hype' cause we simply lack the flair, teamplay, and form.
Heskey.. UGH!

so the 4-1 win against Croatia wasn't anything to do with that then ?

There is a saying that Sometimes you can find a white feather in a raven too..

heskey for top scorer anyone? i would be so happy. i love the guy.
2010-06-03 15:02:03
If that happens, I reckon England will have probably had a mare. If there top scorer is Heskey, they are likely to have not scored, or certainly 2 or less.

Wikipedia reckons he is a white raven :

Capello has the distinction of winning the domestic league title with every club he has coached throughout his career. In his first five seasons as a manager he won four Serie A titles with Milan, where he also won the 1993–94 UEFA Champions League, defeating Barcelona 4-0 in a memorable final. He then spent a year at Real Madrid, where he won the La Liga title at his first attempt, and in 2001 led Roma to their first league title in 18 years. Capello also won two titles at Juventus (which were later stripped after the Calciopoli scandal), and in 2006 returned to Real Madrid, where he won another La Liga title. Overall he has won a major league championship in seven (or nine, counting in the two revoked titles with Juventus) of his 16 seasons as a coach, and is one of the few managers to claim championship victories in four major European cities: Milan, Madrid, Rome, and Turin.

my starting 11

............green
johnson..terry..ferdinand..A.cole
.............barry
lennon...lampard...gerrard
.....crouch....rooney

when barry's missing i'd make gerrard do the defensive mid role with J cole on left wing :)

David James - great season, tried and tested. Hasn't made a big mistake recently.

Johnson - against the weaker teams but maybe switch to Cara for aerial presence and more solid defensively.

Ferdinand - Captain, has to start.

Terry - Form suggests a bit suspect but he's a rock at the back.

A. Cole - One of the best leftbacks in the world.

Barry - Better than Carrick and noone else can play the defensive middy role.

Lampard - Great season, improving for England and great ability.

Lennon - Great pace, will cause problems for most defences.

Milner - Another player in great form for club. Proven himself over the past 2 years and deserves a chance.

Rooney - Has to start.

Crouch - Scores goals for England, Heskey is suitable replacement but feel couch has more to his game, also has the best celebration out of the England squad.

Subs - J.Cole as an impact player (as he has been all season for Chelsea).
- Defoe is a good goal threat.
- Gerrard if droped may make him pull his socks up and prove he wants to play for England.

Opps ...so King, Upson or Carragher?
2010-06-04 16:38:48
ledley is no doubt the most talented defender out of the 3 so i would pick him.
2010-06-04 17:38:20
Just read that Ferdinand won`t play in world cup due to injury he brought up from a crash with Heskey. Dawson takes his place. Big hit imo....but there are no irreplaceable players in England squad, beside Rooney maybe when he is in top form:)

Actually Rio is irreplacable. King is fine, but nowhere near Ferdinand's level. Carragher is also past his prime and never really played at Rio's top level. Not that he was in top form lately, because of all the injuries...

I always considered Ferdinand to be one of those who switches off at key moments, have you noticed much of that this season steelers ? I know he's been injured a fair bit, I'm just wondering if we're better off without carrying him ?
