Subject: Robert Green

True, but the lack of pace at Centre back is more a worry for me.

lostprophets is right. anyone who has ever played in goal knows mistakes happen, wheather its a freak deflection, the ball bouncing higher than usual etc...

especially with this new ball, it is described as a beach ball.

If only John Terry had shagged Robert Green's bird.

fair point ...except the ball didn't take a freak deflection, bobble unexpectedly, bounce higher than usual.
It came right at him and he either was too lazy to go down properly or completely misjudged his position - in my book neither are forgivable when the result is a goal.

Had anything you suggested actually happened, then that would have just been unlucky and not really his fault - but it was 100% his error.

ye, i heard his interview and he said it struck his thumb and went in, he should have just volleyed it away.

Almost the same keeper error was made today in the Algeria v Slovenia match. All you can put it down to is nerves.

Green in, and i back the beard!

Agreed.

especially that one - shocking position.

Actually, I put it down to too much amateur cricket. He used to play regularly for a Norfolk league side, and the way he went down for that looked like he was trying to field a cricket ball. Muscle memory is a bugger.

I think it was a keeper error as he didn't get properly behind a weak shot, he had plenty time to adjust his position, over confident or just treated the shot too casual? If he had even spilling would have most likely spun the ball forward and he'd have been able to adjust quickly and gather the ball at 2nd attempt. He should have owned up to it. saying it was the ball just keeps the error alive in his head. Own up, forget it, move on.

I think the manager was wrong not to pick his keeper until the last minute as Green was inexperienced and at least it would have helped him get more mentally ready if he knew he was the no1. choice. Personally Id have picked a more experienced keeper.

But having made the choice the manager has to stick with him in the next games otherwise Greens confidence goes. And also some confidence in the manager would go, he be showing to have made a mistake in his keeper picking. Did the manager leave his decision that late or just his reveal that late, either way, its a mistake.

he could get around it using the classic Fergie technique, "Green picked up an injury in training", probably due to him getting a massive kick up his ar$e.

Green's error was riddiculous - yes we all make mistakes sometimes, but NOT making these mistakes in the big games is what seperates world class from the rest... and Green showed he is NOT world class.

But the fact is we still only scored once, and that was before the yanks even realised there was a match happening. We failed to win because the whole team failed to perform, not just because we let in one stupid goal. If we had won 2-1 or 3-1 or whatever we would still be asking questions of Green, but they probably wouldn't be "wtf is your problem, you uselss twunt?!?"

Cech is supposedly the worlds best and he has made some awful mistakes.......enough said imo.

Baised much wdp? Haha Green should probably get another chance but looking at past keepers making mistakes (Robinson, James and Carson) he will get dropped. To be fair Capello said the inform player would play and that HAS to be Hart!! Birmingham punching well above their weight whereas Westham and Pompy were relegation canidates all season. Fair?

Thats fair, and of course I am biased. However to be fair Greens has been a mainstay for 3 seasons and playing really well most of the time. I have no issue with giving Hart a try but I just get fed upo with all the critics when it was a dire overall performance stopping us from winning.

The 2 USA defenders are very poor at best Championship players and we could not score more than 1 goal! :(
