Subject: England won but.........

2010-06-25 14:47:02
I just hope when we get through this one that they look at the future and get a manager and team together with the WC in mind...

I mean we couldn't even use the jubblies ball last season due to the FA being so dense they didnt arrange the ball sponsorship deal to end before the WC starts... twunts and leotards of the highest order.

We've got plenty of young talent coming through, defense wise the U-21s contain a potential backline of Bertrand - Smalling - Richards - Naughton, along with Mancienne as possible protection in front of it, added to with Johnson, Cahill, Dawson and Gibbs.

Midfielders could consist of Cattermole, Wilshire, Rodwell, Lansbury and Delph, along with Milner, Johnson, Lennon, Young and Walcott. Also Michael Johnson has been plagued by injury but it a very good player.

Strikers would start from Rooney(24), and possibly Walcott(21), along with possibly Carroll or Cole as your target man type, with Vaughan, possibly Baxter(though he's a little young), Sturridge, Welbeck who I hear is very highly rated by Ferguson and Connor Wickham who seems to be wanted by a few clubs for decent money.

Keepers are a little more tricky, but Hart provides an obvious base, then Green and Robinson would possibly be still round in 8 years time or so, so hopefully one of a few Manu keepers come good during that period, as Foster is still young so could come good at Brum, Heatons just gone to Cardiff and I think the still have a couple more on their books, also ncn you said you had a keeper on loan from Newcastle? Forster? So he could be another.

All this together could produce:

Hart

Johnson - Richards - Cahill - Cole

Lennon - Milner - Rodwell - Johnson

Rooney - Walcott

That would provide a very very quick side, and would be difficult to stop simply because of it.

Milner is more an outside mid/wing isn't he? Or does he play both?
2010-06-25 15:00:07
He's been moved centrally for Villa due to Young and Downing occupying the wings and has been fantastic there, it's his form from central midfield that I believe got him included in Capello's first XI, even though on the wing.

That's a good analysis Cartman, although I'm not sure whether Ashley Cole will still be playing top level at 31.

In terms of Euro qualification, we've still got half our current squad young enough to compete at a decent level in a couple of years.

Current squad members who will still be about for Euro 2012 :

GK : Green (30), Hart (23)

Def : Johnson (25), Dawson (26), Warnock (28)

Mid : Lennon (23), J. Cole (28), Milner (24) Wright-Phillips (28), Carrick (28)

Att : Rooney (24), Defoe (27)

I'd be surprised if Cole is not in the next WC squad at 33.
2010-06-25 15:09:48
He has played very well, but who can tell when your knees go ?

Other recent England squad call-ups young enough for 2012 :

GK Ben Foster (27), Robinson (30)
Def : Lescott (27), Baines (25), Shawcross (22), Cahill (24)
Mid : Downing (25), Jenas (27), Young (24), Huddlestone (23), Johnson (22)
Att : Walcott (21), C. Cole (26), D. Bent (26), Agbonlahor (23)

So there is talent in spades.

Forster could be a top level keeper in a few seasons, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets games for Newcastle this season as understudy.
2010-06-25 15:24:37
Shawcross was one that I thought of but forgot to put in, I'm not sure about Baines at the top level, and I know that Lescott has had massive injury problems, Downing I believe has simply been pushed out and isn't good enough and Jenas has come and gone for me now, Huddlestone may get in, but he seems to be forever frustrating..

I believe if Bent was going to get a chance, it was for this WC, and I don't think Agbonlahor has got enough outside of pace to play for England.

To be honest with the performances I've seen from most of the teams in this World Cup, you could pick any 11 players from this lot, work with them for a month, and they'd stand as good a chance as any other team.

ahh okay. =)

Haven't really followed much of the club football lately as I'm rather limited being in the States and all =/

i was a big fan of micheal johnson of city, he needs to leave citeh though.
2010-06-25 16:46:04
Yep and come to West Ham if hes fit. ;)
2010-06-25 16:50:22
well, he is guarenteed first team football there, but i fear city will be a new chelsea, buying players like steve sidwell so that other teams cant have him etc.
2010-06-25 16:58:44
There is a maximum squad size of 25 for next season in the Premiership.
2010-06-25 17:58:06
I agree with you.

@ NCN that is a nice change imo. :)

Either way teams like Man U, City, Chelsea etc will have 25 Internationals. ;)
