Subject: Joe Cole?
I'm just being obtuse because I think this sudden orgy of media-driven Joe-Cole-inspired prolix Liverpool self-analysis is perversely premature given that
- the financial writing has been on the wall for a while now, it hasn't just happened
- Hodgson is a good manager, will make the most of a rotten situation, and Liverpool will be far higher up the table come the end of the season
- that given the financial restrictions and decline of the team over the past few seasons Liverpool supporters are unrealistic in their expectations if they really believed that things had got as bad as they were going to get and were going to improve this season
Hence, I find a lot of the chunter not only uninteresting but also quite idiotic. You're right though, I should stop reading and shut up, as no doubt I will exponentially contribute to the chunter and get drawn into a barny... :-)

True but it's current news due to the October deadline and it's largely been ignored in the past, they even to a large extent ignored the sit in after the weekend game. Of course it has been used to excuse RH's situation but as usual with the media's double standards was ignored in previous seasons when the Spanish bloke was in charge.
"- Hodgson is a good manager, will make the most of a rotten situation, and Liverpool will be far higher up the table come the end of the season"
RH is a decent enough small club manager but is way out of his depth at a club like Liverpool just as he was at Inter. His career win ratio is 40.55% which is better then Steve Bruce and on a par with the likes of Sam Allardyce but is somewhat off the pace of the likes of Rafa who averages over 54% and who is actually better then Wenger although not by much.
RH should have known the situation before he took the job and was supposed to improve things after the last manager was judged to be not doing well enough but now keeps telling us that the squad is poo and we are expecting too much. If the squad is so crap how was it ranked 1st in Europe and how the hell did the previous manager get them to finish 2nd?
RH's annoyance with a reporter at the press conference for the Sunderland who merely asked if he would be tempted to change his approach to games proved his limited management abilty. "I have coached the same way for 35 years why would I change anything?" he said, this explains why he doesn't get up off his arse during a game to tweak things from the technical area and his reluctance to bring subs on so far.
"- that given the financial restrictions and decline of the team over the past few seasons Liverpool supporters are unrealistic in their expectations if they really believed that things had got as bad as they were going to get and were going to improve this season"
Decline over the last few seasons? They finished 2nd the season before last with the least losses ever for a team not to be champs. Their only bad season was last season, you know the season with non stop injuries and even beach balls. How are they deluded and over expectant when they simply expected that with less injuries and a little more squad depth it could be turned around. Apparently morale was the only problem and RH was the guy to sort that.

As has been pointed out you are on a Liverpool thread so I don't really know what you expected.

Just becuase I like stats, I looked up Liverpool's points totals under Benitez....
04/05:58
05/06:82
06/07:68
07/08:76....Torres Joined
08/09:86
09/10:63
Funnily enough FT didn't play all that much in 08/09, nor did Hyypia, but Gerrard had his best scoring season, so why did Gerrard do so well that season?

Maybe, looking further into this, 04/05 and 09/10 are the only 2 seasons where Liverpool conceded 30+ goals, I'd argue Carraghers massive drop in form last season played a large part, possibly coupled with losing Hyypia aswell. 08/09 was also the highest scoring season with 77, by 10 goals, last season was the third highest under Benitez.

Maybe the dj's let him pick the music on the whole when he went out for a drink before he came across one that didn't want to.
Ok more serious answer, it's hard to say. Alonso didn't assist as much as Gerrard but Gerrard takes all the set pieces and corners (his corners are often pretty crap IMO) which clouds things. Alonso set the tempo and helped 'pool with his range of passing and most would agree that he was a big loss when he left but to me Arbeloa was also very important and underrated. He was extremely solid at right back and when he had to be replaced Johnson just isn't anywhere near as good defensively. When their loss is coupled with Carragher's drop in form last season too and Hyypia leaving it had a big impact as you are suggesting.
I personally feel that Carragher needs easing out of the team now and felt that last year, I also felt the same about Gerrard last year but in most fans and pundits eyes they are undroppable. Rafa seemed to try dropping them last season a little and the press loved showing the dirty looks that they gave when being subbed.
Carragher stated in his autobiography that the day he gets rotated at 'pool is the day he leaves which makes it hard to drop him when he is a fans favourate. Rumour has it that when Rafa tried doing it last season him and his mate Gerrard started to feed inside info to some of their reporter friends to undermine Rafa and when the board decided to get rid of Rafa one of the reasons was apparently because he lost the dressing room which other players since have said was not the case. It's hard to know how much is true but there does seem to be a certain amount of player power from certain players sadly.

Scary times to be a 'pool supporter. Sadly it's not just the style of footy that's dire it's the fact that everytime he opens his mouth he speaks rubbish too.
twifficly tewwible. Glen johnson has been very poor, and poulson looks loke a poorer version of lucas. bad times at te moment
If you need directions to Peterborough next year, just ask...
thanks :) im sure we will kick start our season soon... right...?
First time since 1964 that we have been in the bottom three after a set of fixtures. Worst result since 1959 or something with the Northampton result.
Depressing times but at least if the result had come away yesterday against Blackpool we could have had a day out. In fact we could have all taken our buckets and spades and burried RH somewhere on the beach never to be found again.

If we can beat Everton...
we'll have 3 more points than we do now.
This is just awful, if the Yanks aren't going to go they should pay every Pool supporter weekly just for showing commitment.
I didn't see the match on MOTD last night - I didn't need to. These are dire, dire times :(

You should all thank Hodgson really. This is what it's like to be a football supporter for 95% of teams.
