Subject: Joe Cole?
well im not am i? they went and lost at home to northampton who are a league 2 side, that would be a couple of relegations away
they lost due to tactics, havent missed a match in 3 years, since hodgson as taken over we dont press up the pitch and we invite pressure, thats why such poor performances. plus he has been playing players out of position which doesnt help the cause
They actually didn't lose to Northampton they drew and got knocked out on pens although that's still an appalling result at home.
Like has been said this was purely down to bad tactics and playing players out of position how RH had the cheek to put all the blame on the players when he didn't even make a sub until extra time is beyond me.
The tactics were the same as the ones that currently have them at the dizzy heights of 18th in the prem, the same ones that RH insists he has been using for 35 years so they don't need changing. The ones that have brought him great success at huge clubs like Halmstads in '76 and '79, Malmö FF in the '86 and '88, and Copenhagen in 2001. A massive 5 league titles in a glittering 35 year career.

Maybe the 11 players he had picked should have been capable of beating Northampton Town ? Their exorbitant salaries suggest that they might be capable.

So you are agreeing that it was tactics at fault?
That's why I asked, it seemed to be questioning me but to me makes my point anyway.
"Maybe the 11 players he had picked should have been capable of beating Northampton Town ? Their exorbitant salaries suggest that they might be capable."
I agree they should have been capable of beating a struggling div 2 team and that's why I said it was an appalling result to draw against them. So why didn't they beat them, as I said I feel it's down to tactics and playing players out of position plus other poor management.
Liverpool were at home and even took an early lead in the game but as with RH's tactics your team invites pressure as they sit on the edge of their own box very narrow and don't even press or stop crosses. This allowed Northampton to get plenty of confidence as they passed the ball around freely instead of them feeling under siege pinned in their own half.
On top of this Wilson (that played 1st team for Rangers last season) was played at left back when it's not his position, Babel was played as a support striker (hahaha) and Pacheco (who won the golden boot at the recent U19 Euros) was played on the right winger when that's not his position. Just having Babel and Pacheco switched would have been far better but Pacheco is too short to be able to get on the end of the aimless hoofs that Roy likes to play. He also had a central midfield partnership of 2 defensive players when Rafa used to get slated all the time for doing that against far better opposition.
Northampton outplayed Liverpool with their higher tempo pressing game and what did Roy do to change things around? Well nothing until extra time, maybe because he chose to have no experience on the bench that he had picked and didn't know much about the youngsters.
"exorbitant salaries"
The bane of modern football sadly and I don't like it myself, even managers rake it in.

who seriously listens to tactics when you go out to play a game? If you see something isnt working, you dont keep playing it if it isnt working and wait to be told that it's not working. Babel and Pacheco should have just switched themselves around if they both wanted to. Screw the manager and them telling you what to do, you're the ones playing the game. If you're better, you should win, end of.
That is exactly what my coach/manager told my club team when I played back in school..
They aren't 7 year olds. They should know how to adapt to situations at hand.

and thereby missing the point that if you don't do what the manager says you are out of there...
precisely. If you don't obey the manager there is no point in having a manager.
It's no different from work. Even if your boss is thick and hopeless, you still have to do what they say.

If that was the case then why did England in the world cup get a bunch of ego planks that don't listen?
Not true.. He didn't want to risk any of the youngsters...Joe Hart for example...And now it seems he is the no1 goal keeper...I think Capello need to take more risks.
but then the manager would quickly get the sack. Can hardly see anyone leaving Gerrard/Torres out if they change the tactics themselves and win the game because of it. Only the players can really tell how to best adapt to the situations in the game, if im playing on the wing and see the defender behind me struggling to cope with their winger, i'll play more defensively to help him out. If i see they're playing a high line and we have a quick forward, i'll send a ball over the top or something, i dont care what the manager says, if im bossing the game and clearly the best player out there thats all i care about. I'd rather win and be a fans favourite through not listening than lose and be a managers pet.
I am guesing you are young.
There is a reason why teams have managers and scouts and these days why the better richer teams use chalkboards and the like to scout out opponents and fine tune their own teams.
Football is a team game and when teams play as a team instead of 11 individuals they can sometimes pull huge shocks off like Greece did in the Euros while teams like Spain in the past underperformed, Germany don't have the best players in the world flair wise but always perform quite well down to the way they are organised.
