You dodged the question - Is Liverpool where you are from ? Or is it a team you chose because you like the red kit on Match of the Day ? If Jaize is your brother, and he is an Owls fan, I'm guessing you're not a scouser.

I didn't get to choose Liverpool, as many of my Norwich class-mates, who had never left Norfolk, did. My dad was a Norwich supporter, I went to matches when I was 8 because we lived in Norfolk, and hopefully my son will be a Norwich supporter too. Listening to Liverpool fans on here moan about Rafa Benitez, after he lost, what, 2 home matches last season ? Well, that shows the degree of unreality that football has attained.

Trophy cabinets matter nothing when a team represents your roots. Edit - we had Brentford at our gaffe last season. They have a great song - "We are the Barcelona, of the lower leagues". Funny, and apt too, as they are fan owned and run. Give me that, give me Delia bloody Smith even, over "World Series" football rammed down your throats on 40 Saturdays and Sundays a year, complete with 4-1-4-1 boring games from the likes of Bolton, who can't compete financially so try to bore their way to wins, your Shinawatras, your dodgy Sheiks, your 4 owners in a season and now a championship basket-case Portsmouth, your glass ceilinged and now in debt to the taxman Hull, your Yankee debt leveragers. You, Mr Turricant, are welcome to it.

It's not about moral high ground dylan - the team represents where you are from. Maybe you're ashamed of where you're from ?

don't get much chance to watch Wiener Neustädter SC. We don't all come from big cities. The nearest league club I guess would have been Reading after I moved to England, but since I hated the town I went to school in why would I associate myself with it? My parents are into rugby and hate football, and I never got into it until after my first couple of years of travel. So am I not allowed to watch football then or support a side? A 'real' supporter is a loyal supporter.

I would agree with that sentiment, and anyone who supports Newcastle without having to deserves some credit. I do consider myself very fortunate to have watched some great football just down the road from my home.

i once (long long ago) watched Norwich play against QPR - saw 5 goals (i think it was) in 90 mins... definitely entertaining football.

i do know where you're coming from when questioning supporters of the big 4 (soon to be 5)... there are a lot of "supporter"s who switch based on likelihood of being able to say "they" won the league. and frankly they are w*****s. But with ridiculous ticket prices, especially if you have to pay for a kid to come too, many more children grow up on tv football, and the big clubs get the most air time.

we came up with a plan in africa... bring a ship load of shirts for your premiership club of choice and hand them out to people in bars. they will proudly wear it - guaranteed - and your team will have their loyal support. my experience in Namibia was that the premiership supporters new their teams inside-out too, so the word will spread. unfortunately i couldn't give the toon away strip away, even in the most poverty stricken areas

Oh, and I do hope you enjoy those trophies, hicks and Gillette have ensured that your season ticket will be paying for their ownership for a long time to come. Typical scallies really, buying things they can't afford on the never never..

That's a very smart idea. No doubt though the big 5 will be working their way into Africa to catch the next adebayor..

and if we're lucky some twat in a pith helmet and outsized mustache will shoot the Big 5... it is traditional afterall
Totally agree with your post aimed at turrican. I got my first season ticket to Oxford United in our 3rd season of being relegated from the Football League for the first time in 54 years.

Modern football sucks, and i secretly hope we never make it above division 3 as the things that i love about football would be lost.

I love the grass roots element of football and sadly it is seeping away through time and the modern way.

I support my local teams (Haverfordwest County in the Welsh Premier and Swansea City in the Championship), but my main club is Liverpool, because both my parents support Liverpool.

Some very kind words mate... I have seen them and your right I did enjoy seeing the trophies...

And yes I will enjoy the season.......The owners thing will work its self out...The could always sell to a cook......

And Jaize my bro?....Lol

I do wonder if winning the league cup means as much to a Liverpool supporter as it does to a Norwich one. We've only done it once you see.
2010-07-22 01:42:04
Yeah it means a lot...Would like them to win the league more!

You can't win the league by buying Chelsea reserves. You need to go deep into Africa to find athletic freaks of nature like Drogba and Adebayore.
