Interesting this one. I went for Pearce over Cole as I like my defenders to stay where they are supposed to. Cole should play DML really, all this overlapping wingback nonsense should really go the way of the mullet...

He would be a decent winger in traditional 442 tactic. Still, I love pacey wingbacks so he got my vote...:)

many players have played in multiple positions - such as carragher, or gareth barry nowadays.

In those cases, I have chosen preferred location, where arguably most famous.

Agreed ...but I think, due to the youngish age of a lot of forum users (in the over 30's club here), there'll be a bias towards picking current/very recent prem players in the polls.

When you look at what Cole has won as a player though it's a pretty convincing arguement, 6 fa cups and 3 league titles and is likely to hit 100 England caps.

I'm not saying Cole falls in to this bracket... but a half decent player in an outstanding team could win a lot of silverware. And as for England caps that rather depends on the quality of competiton at the time.

I say this as a United fan ...Wes Brown has 20-odd caps and a sackful of Silverware, but he wouldn't get near my 'best of' list. So maybe they're not entirely objective measures?

I am shocked at the Cole votes but then there are no real stand out LB's. I think the type of voter certainly makes a difference here, but Cole is a totally different sort of left back from the old. His attacking play is over-rated and annoys me.

Brown got 20 games for England? Wow.

Also, is it me, or Le Saux was a great lefy defy?
