Subject: GCSE Results.
You can't fail exams anymore. They all finish in 2nd place these days.
really? you can't fail?!
that is rubbish, why can't we go back to a meritocratic education but with a vocational bit for the less academic folk?
how are nippers ever supposed to achieve anything without a competitive edge? If we are not careful they will all see some sort of short term vapid career option rather than learn a trade as a truly viable future.

Biggest Pile Of Crap I've Ever Heard (along with exams are getting easier)
Exams are more difficult now, you have to hand in piles of coursework and still do a written exam, whereas in the Dark Ages it all relied on one big exam.
People need to except that we're getting more intelligent than the people destroying the planet and giving us lies called politics.
(However, most of the people in my form are brain dead, probably 20% of my form has real intelligence)

Exams are a little easier.
Take maths for example - no c/w.
And the older papers were often a lot more testing.

According to recent research from Durham Uni you can add 2 grades to A levels taken 20 years ago to see what you would get now

Exams cannot be more difficult because kids are taught only what is needed to pass that subject, there is no learning of a broad range of knowledge any part of which could appear in the exams.
I agree the nippers can only pass what is put in front of them but there is absolutely no way that in one generation kids have got markedly more intelligent. That really is the biggest pile of crap!

you've just described why I did a course in IT.

My U in DT disagrees.
GCSE's are a piece of piss, dont know whether thats because they've got easier, kids are growing up quicker and knowing stuff earlier or because they've always been easy, but they aren't challenging at all as long as you're like not a tard or welsh or something

maths was easy really, the coursework was more less done for you and if correct you were guarenteed at least a c. and err, thats why i got a c in it :)
It wasn't meant to be treated as a serious comment!
I did O Levels and GCSEs as I was at a test school for them and they took over the next year. Everyone, and I mean everyone, even the forktards got straight A's in all the subjects they took at GCSE. There was no comparison in the exams, we all thought that is was some kind of a joke...
Well, I got 2 D's, and 2 E's when I took mine in the first year that they went national.
Which probably makes me the biggest forktard this side of the Tescos spork factory.

Can't resist picking apart your claim of greater intelligence ;)

Is this a book or film title? Why have you capitalised each word? #fail
People need to except that we're getting more intelligent
Except you're not. Accept it! You need to be able to master the basics of language both verbally and written, spelling and grammar before attempting the tricky stuff that you get after leaving school. #fail
more intelligent than the people destroying the planet
The over-populated developing world and the US you mean? Or the generation trying to decide between whether to try to help fix it or watch x-factor? You probably have a point here. 1 to you
more intelligent than the people ... giving us lies called politics.
The politicians are the intelligent ones who know that the general public read rags like the Sun, Mirror & Mail and will believe any old shit. The intelligent part of the populace understand that politicians are essentially power hungry, self-serving, beaurocratic leeches but live their lives accepting that there are no easy solutions to most of society's problems. another 1 for me. School leavers are not more intelligent than politicians
Wahoo I win 3-1.
I love it when this argument comes round every year. A bunch a spotty oiks saying they are more intelligent than their parents. It gives the older generation a chance to wind up the pain in the arse teenagers who have been miserable and unhelpful since puberty.
Fundamentally you can't compare newer exam result statistics with older ones because the educational and social parameters for the comparison are constantly changing. You can't get kids these days to take older papers without them following the associated curriculum. End of argument.
Of course, most adults know this because they have life experience. However there is plenty of evidence in the UK from universities and commercial institutions that standards in basic written and verbal English as well as maths have fallen dramatically in the last 20 years. Which of course means nothing against your key point of argument that school leavers/kids today are more intelligent now unless you define at the beginning what you mean by intelligence (Gardners theory of multiple intelligences is a good place to start), but you didn't.
I'll stop now, need to do some work before I go for my afternoon nap.

rhysyboy, has just failed English language with an epic fail facepalm. People "accept" not "except" in his statement.
I don`t want to discredit student efforts or what grades they get as they can only answer whats in front of them.
However there are now lots of reasons why the best of the best cannot be seperated and 4 AAAA`s are not particularly exceptional anymore. Uni`s have trouble spotting the best students,, as with a lot of effort an average talent can get an A whereas years ago average talents did not even get three EEE`s at A level.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/3347727/Head-closes-school-to-halt-pupil-protest-over-sacking.html this is the one about closing the school. We loved a bit of controversy.
Throwing a school bag at an unruly pupil causes uproar? Bloody kids today.
I sat next to a kid in Maths who had a broken leg with his crutches resting against the desk. They fell down a couple of times so I picked them up. The third time they fell the teacher said to leave them on the floor, but I picked them up anyway. He came over and jabbed the end of the crutches against my shoulder blade (imagine any film where you see someone get twatted with the butt of a rifle/shotgun). I should have complained or feigned injury looking back. At the time I thought I was basically disobeying the teacher so it was my own fault. I should have left the crutches on the floor for someone to trip over and sue the school over. Incidently he was from the Deep South and ex-army rumoured to have been in Vietnam, so I got off lightly really.
