Subject: Battrick

Ever since I sold my number 2 batsman and replaced him with a numpty, my number 1 batsman, and batting line-up generally, has become spectacularly useless.

End of Over 34 (4 runs). Garboldisham Casuals: 66-4, runrate=1.94
Trail by 240 runs. (Queens Park CC 306-10)

I should have kept the opener and gone bankrupt.

Celtic Wanderers won by an innings and 440 runs

oh and I scored 468 in my first ininngs so guess how much they scored
2008-02-27 15:17:51
I won by an innings and 375 runs. They were all out for a combined 104 over both innings!!
2008-02-27 15:23:21
I declared overnight on 367-5.
I thought was going very well when I had them at 117/4 but they have managed to go without further loss to 205 so it could be a long day, especially as the next man in is yet another batsman

I'm officially screwed !

End of Over 79 (Maiden). Garboldisham Casuals: 132-10, runrate=1.67
Trail by 174 runs. (Queens Park CC 306-10)

well - finally their stand of 140+ for the 5th wickets has been broken and they've collapsed from 264/4 to 295/9.

I should get a few runs in before the end of the day - but with a lead of at best 100 what do I do? Go for a draw or attack!
2008-02-27 17:55:30
Go for the draw. Set a really high dec figure then set all batsman to defensive.
2008-02-27 18:00:00
boring[¬¬]
I will go for the win - I lead by 88 now.

I'm just wondering how aggressive to get - I could set a target of 250 and cross my fingers.

Due to the inadequacies of the declaration system, if he guessed what I was up to he could set 2 pie chuckers to bowl - let me get to 250 in the morning andthen leisurely cruise to a victory

LOL! I never play for the draw anyway so I dont know why I suggested that you should!!!!! I would set all my batsman to attacking and set a target of 300 as a dec. Then set all bowlers to very attacking and try to bowl him out, worst that can happen is that you should draw, or a slight chance of a defeat.
2008-02-27 18:37:32
Id avoid all very attacking bowlers as this could backfire, but pick and choose the ones to be more aggressive :)

End of Over 18 (2 runs). Leeds Apathetical: 51-1, runrate=2.83 (1st Inn: 367-5 dec)
Lead by 122 runs.

I think 300 would be a reasonable target - carries risks - but a draw is most likely whatever I do.
2008-02-27 18:47:27
I'm pulling my 6th and possibly 5th bowlers out of the attack altogether and putting them up only slightly in aggression. It's the weather and deteriorating pitch that have to get them out
2008-02-28 13:14:20
I'm going to blame the downtime if I don't win this match. Get your excuses in early, I say.
2008-02-28 13:18:56
I lost yesterday, damn downtime!
2008-02-28 13:40:36
the delay will clearly be to my advantage as it gives the pitch more time to deteriorate
2008-02-28 13:47:05
Don't they put the covers on when there's a delay?
