Re: the talk about pointless courses, look at it this way: if the fees are put up, no-one in their right mind is going to pay thousands to do David Beckham studies or whatever other tripe is out there. I don't endorse fee-raising but I do think it will be the death knell for all courses that don't clearly lead to a profession (unless you're the offspring of a wealth architect who can subsidise you).

I agree with your sentiment, but am not sure if it will work out that way.

This is an exaggeration of my point :

12,000 people do David Beckham studies
1 person gets the job as Beckhams personal groomer / PA / whatever
5 people get jobs writing about Beckham

11,994 people go on the dole, and never have to pay the loan back.

And to be fair, who knew the global warming industry was actually an industry, until Margaret Thatcher started employing scientists to research it ?

Maybe we'll discover that the ice-caps are melting because Beckham uses too much Brillcream ?

sadly lots of architects don't get a huge amount of cash as "big names" take the mickey big style of gullible students that think having a C.V. packed with "top architects" will get them decent jobs.

It won't.

By the time these guys have filled their C.V., normal folk have already got all the decent jobs!

When I got my first proper architecture job a mate of mine started at Foster's on the same £9000 salary. He is now on £35000 and I am retired (sort of) ;-p

Reading this topic makes me depressed.
2010-12-10 14:13:37

Will I get free anti-depressants? ;)

Usually. But only if you mess your brain up on drugs first.

Sounds cool.
Though my brain is already pretty messed up.

i have an idea, instead of cutting vital services, people should have to pay an amount to enter a public building, like a museum, £5 for adults £3 for kids, same with libraries and places of interest. simple idea and effective.

already do through taxes though.

What gets me is the way they scrimp and save pissing people off, yet spend many more times over on stuff where noone here receives the benefit or even knows its happening
2010-12-11 07:44:45
Exactly. I mean if we just dont fight America's war in Afghanistan it will be enough money saved. And considering the recent leaked info about how Karzai and US have mocked British troops after we lost like more than 100 souls fighting for these ungrateful sob's.

it won't work dude, most people just won't go. The Brits are so keen on a bargain they are happy to forego their education or cultural enrichment to save a few quid.

ridiculous really.

Another good idea is not to spend those ridiculously expensive billions on our Nuclear Arms as we have to now apparantly renew those aged missiles :S
2010-12-11 10:32:52
MP's in house of commons and lords to spend more on taxes or have their expenses stopped?
2010-12-11 11:47:07
It goes on.. :S
When news is slow I expect their to be another report on how they have remained the same...
I say get rid of the nukes which was only needed for the communist threat and now that has dissapeared still they wont do it. Why? Cause its big money for our defense companies and corrupt politicians. BOO!
