Did I mention that I love the Pete and the Pirates album, btw? It's amazing and, superficially at least, surprising that it's not got more press.

New Portishead album is out at the end of this month. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm hoping it'll be a good'un. Saw Beth Gibbons live at Glastonbury once - she was so terrified of the crowd she sang most of her set with her back to the audience, calmed down a bit after bumming a ciggy off a guy at the front. Odd that she should be so nervous on stage, given with Portishead back in the day they must have toured a fair bit and done the tv performances.

Did you buy Portishead's 'Third' album Jim? Bought it a couple of weeks back and have only just listened to them all back to back...to be honest, i'm not that impressed, only Machine Gun really stands out, so much so my neighbours probably think i've murdered my whole family.

You shouldn't know how to illegally download things at your age...it's nice to own the Real McCoy sometimes.

Prefer the Young Knives' first album. Looking forward to watching them at glasto.

Have you heard their cover of "Stand and Deliver"? It rocks.

I got it a month or two back - agree, it's a bit pap & I haven't been able to force myself to listen it on the daily commute to work in the car with the windows down, put it that way. It's grown on me a bit since the first couple of listens, but I'm unimpressed tbh.

My music's turned into stuff I listen to mostly in the car (CD) and stuff I listen to mostly off of the internet, after my brother sent me a link to Spotify, which is ace - play pretty much any reasonably well known artist's music straight off the internet, no fee, an advert every 15 tracks or so.
Things I've dredged up by association on Spoitify: Unbelievable Truth (Tom Yorke's brother's band), Rock Kills Kid, The Honorary Title, Frightened Rabbit
Ane Brun, Bon Iver, Cinematic Light Orchestra are new buys over Christmas, still listening to Fink and revisiting Gomez, Third Eye Blind and DJ Shadow. Have listened to Dire Straits so often in the car that it began to dement me.

alot of alt-bluegrass and alt-country specifically
Old Crow medicine show
Chatham County line and
The Avett Brothers.

All really ace.
