Subject: Music

I don't get the prodigy live - at least I didn't at V 98. 50,000 people in a field going mad over 2 blokes screaming over drum machines, and me shrugging my shoulders and going back to the tent.

I had to back at 7 (no, not because of sokker)

Was it because of bedtime?

Prodigy live is great. if you like that kind of music - it's about the energy.

It does appear to be a marmite thing though. If you don't like their music, you'll hate it, as with general live music, it is louder, cruder and has more shouting.

Maybe it's the "V" festivals. At V97, I went with about 15 people from university and 14 of them went off to watch the bluetones, whilst I got spat on by Keith Flint* I was as happy as a pig in poop.

*he drank from a bottle of water than spat it back over the front couple of rows.

Now I'm an old man, I'd still go, but stand further back, to avoid getting spat on. And might wear earplugs too after getting 4 day tinnitus at a prodigy gig a while back.

I actually like the music. They seem to have a backing band these days, don't know if that would allow me to enjoy it more or not really. It just seemed too easy.

Prodigy are amazin live. Though your definately right, you have to go there expecting to get pushed about n unfortunately spat on! I recently went to see taking back sunday in leeds, any of you like them/was there? Was a good set but they only performed 10-11 which was a bit disapointing. Who's the best band you guys ever seen live?

Stereophonics @ the Wales Grand Slam Party 08

Blur at the University of East Anglia a couple of times. Excellent band. Also Ocean Colour Scene at the Birmingham Academy, although that got called off early as the singers' voice went.

I saw phonics at sheffield a year or two ago, thought they were amazin. Was wanted to see blur but never got chance, love their older stuff.

All their stuff is old now :)

From dot-to-dot festival this weekend I'd recommend
Blood Red Shoes (English version of White Stripes)
Dead Confederates (big noise somewhere between Nirvana and newer stuff like Placebo and Kings of Leon - if the lead singer could sing in a slightly higher pitch to avoid being drowned out by the guitars then they would be immense)
Beach House (fairly decent chilled out effort, bit bland though)

OK:
White Hinterland (nice background tra-la-la, but in the flesh watching their barefoot vocalist persevere with attempting to breathe melodically, whilst the chap played with electronic gubbins to sample and loop the vocals - his kit crammed on a table with a carpet and makshift candlelit pseudo-altar on it - was a bit like attending a hippy home-birth)
Sketches (generic indie, good effort)

Gash:
Los Campesinos (lead singer is a shouty mental who needs a relaxing spa day)
Liars (utter utter tosh - lead singer can't sing for toffee; someone else must have guested on their album)

well, they are Liars...

My mate has music software that makes it sound like I can sing :)

I imagine they have better.
2010-06-01 22:38:18
that isn't sofware, it is a tape of someone else singing...
