I wouldn't hire anyone into dance music either, tbh.
Good call, under 25 & into dance music: fried from too many crap pills, over 30 & into dance - fried from too many good ones back in the late 80's early 90's...whereas the 25 to 30's got fried by 1st good pills then bad ones in a recreational pharmaceutical double whammy.

Technology manager for a company that sells a premium rate telephone service for automotive recycling. You phone us to find a car part, or use our web form, we charge you for the call at a pound a minute, and then sell your information to dismantlers. So we sell the same nothing twice. A work of twisted genius if ever there was one.
Downs :
My boss (the twisted genius) keeps having mad ideas that involve people I've never met before from various parts of America. He's involved in Trade Shows and Associations 95% of the time now, spending 3 months a year over there, leaving the day job to his son. As a result I spend ever more time developing what appear to be white elephant web sites for people i've never met who don't understand why they need something that my boss thinks they need. But then nobody understood why they needed the original service until he explained that to them either, so maybe he's onto something.
When I started here as a programmer there were 5 people in my office, now i'm the only person that knows anything left. I've got a part-time student who starts for us full-time in May, and a telephone operator who is learning on the job. Until they both get up to speed, I do most things.
Ups :
The wage keeps going up as people leave. I've run out of people now though, and need to train the next bunch so that they will leave :)
People leave me alone to get on with the work. Or to not get on with the work :).

Jaize, are you the good type of architect, or the evil type ? My dad's a brickie, and he reckons the main problem with architects is that very few of them have actually built anything, and don't understand the challenges that their designs cause as a result.

I would like to think I am the good kind of architect. I went into it after seeing how much damage "bad" architects can do. It is no accident that they are generally given the epithet "The C**t" on a lot of building sites!
I have built quite a lot of stuff so far, even award winning stuff, but the kids coming out of college now couldn't build an airfix kit! Your dad is right. I spent ages on site when I was first doing it, met some great people, but mostly learnt how "stuff" really goes together.
It is not getting easier though with supposed improvements and the whole invention of Quantity Surveyors spelt bad news for the industry. It is now difficult to get anything built that suits the people rather than the developers pocket!
I try to put my money where my mouth is too with a small development firm that I share with a friend (a QS bizarrely!) that champions good design etc. over profit, but it is an uphill struggle.

It's good to see that you're on the good side, it's too easy to take the money and run in most industries. Working as a programmer for a telemarketer, it's not easy to feel good about what you do, it's not exactly charity work. I console myself with the fact that it's promoting recycling, and that a lot of the recyclers are making a living as a result of the likes of Ford etc not being responsible for what happens to the toxins in their product when it dies. So at least I can pretend to be the bloke in the white hat, even if it is for a premium rate service.
