Dean Koontz 'The husband' a brilliant thriller.

I read a book of his called "The Face." It was alright.

"Death and the Penguin" is one I've recently read that was pretty good.

At the moment my choices for next read are a) David Hasselhoff's autobiography b) "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini or c) TE Lawrence "7 Pillars of Wisdom"

b) is most likely, as a) is facile and c) is likely to be very heavy going.

I have read all three.

You are right in all of your assumptions although to call The Hoff's masterwork facile is blessing it with depths it really doesnt have. Unless you are on your holibobs and you can offset his wordsmithery with copious quantities of unusual coloured alcohol, give it a miss.

The Hoff is a legend though, so worth reading from that point of view.

I hope you are using the word read loosely.

I am Koontz's second biggest fan. "The Husband" is pretty poor from him. Try anything from "False Memory" to "Velocity" is his purple patch. Truly amazing stuff in there. The rest of his stuff is good, but those few novels (about ten of them) are the best of any writer currently writing, I believe. And that includes writers who I would place above Koontz generally.

If you like The Husband, try Velocity. You will not be disappointed...it's like The Husband on speed.

I'm going to read The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Anyone familiar with his work?

i read a book once; i quite liked it

Are you reading it in it's original form? That would be impressive! I have read an English version of it and it is good but apparently much better in the original. Sadly my italian isn't up to scratch to not take an age to read.

Seven hundred years old and no original manuscript. If anyone has one in the loft I will happily auction it for you for half the profits! ;-)

What does it look like? I might have one propping up the water tank...

I don't speak Italian either. There is a Dutch version that keeps the right metric system and ryme. I already read some "highlights" on the internet and it looks very good.

Velocity is an awesome book. If you like Dean Koontz, try David Baldacci he does pretty good thrillers (Split Second especially). And The Righteous Men by Sam Browne (I think, not sure though) is decent as well.

Hmm. I have a very extensive Koontz collection that I'm working on completing at the moment. I'll take your advice on Baldacci, but I'll blame you if it's rubbish ;)

I love a nice clean koont

Yea, I wouldn't hesitate about a Koontz over a Baldacci tbh.
