Can anyone help me with this.Im constantly getting pop up's when i open Internet Explorer and Firefox and Firefox closes itself when i try and go onto the Trend Micro free scan page.Ive used adaware and Spybot to get rid of spyware,Avast and PC Cillin for virus's/spyware(all done today and deleted what they all found)but im still getting the same problem.Ive tryed to install Spyware Doctor but it just closes itself when i click the application to install it.Every popup blocker ive used just dont work so im lost for idea's.Im getting really worried now. When i first start my PC now the start up files take about 10 mins to load everything is going very very slow when i try to load something.Ive done a scan today with Trend Micro which is the best scanner you can get and its found nothing so i dont understand this and everything keeps freezing.Surely someone can help me

Trend Micro is not all that!

Go here:

download hijackthis

Run it and it will tell you all processes that are running. Kill the evil ones. Send me the log if you are unsure as to which it is.

I suspect it is a redialer that keeps reinstalling itself. Have you disconnected the internet cable and run the malware software in safe mode? Often works...

It wont let me download it.Just keeps closing itself as it did with spyware doctor

Disconnect the cable (ADSL) and do a restart. When it goes to load windows press F8 a few times (it should say at the bit a bar ticks up across the screen). If you get it right it will give you some options. Choose safe mode (not with networking at first attempt) and then run the scan as you have done already.

Ok i run it in safe mode and disconnected the cable then did a check with spybot and adaware and found 30 odd new spyware but then i found out the problem was trendmicro after i decided to uninstall it and restart my pc.Now everything loads great although things keep closing down and its own e.g I type trend micro on google, click the first link and it just closes down or when i tryed to save the hijackthis application it closed on itself

message me your private email - I will mail it to you. Sounds like you need to kill a few things. The other place to check is the hosts file.

Go in as safe mode again. Find C:\windows\I386\ and the right click on HOSTS and OPEN it in notepad. This file is nearly always completely empty.

Mine is:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

Basically you can delete everything you find here apart from the 127.0.0.1 line. Save it again but make sure it doesn't have a file extension.

Just another place for the little critters to hide...

AVG?
2007-07-01 20:14:42
Ill give it ago but how good is the actual scanner.BitDefender and kaspersky are the best ones but you cant use them to scan in safemode :(

I've used it for ages and not had any problems with it. No idea on how it compares to others though.

It is good for a domestic level scanner. Since they all buy in their heuristics they are much of a muchness really. Unless you subscribe to a pro outfit you will always be reliant on second hand virus definitions.Just choose one you like and keep it up to date.

AVG dont work at all-it just closes down on its own in safemode and normal mode.Hijackthis also closes itself.Really pissing me off now
