Can someone summarise how this one works?

The teams take it in turns to pick players (based on the highest one available on your rankings) until they all have squads. Then you can swap with other managers or free transfers. You score on premiership matches only based on things like number of successful passes, tackles, goals etc in a range of categories. You're ranked on each day's performance in each category against the other teams and the ones who do best in each get more points. Good midfielders and defenders in poor teams will make you more likely to get points in certain categories like successful blocks etc, although not in others like average coals conceded.

I've got my lot sorted, hopefully i get the players I want!

No, select your players in a ranked order, and it seems people will be given their number 1's, if someone has your number 1, and takes that player, you will be more likey to get your number 2(unless your number 2 is someone elses no1), so if by no3 you haven't got a player you will then probably be first to get your 3rd choice player,.

What should happen is that we all get decent squads, and it is the people that have probably got lucky(with where they rank players) that will have the best side.

Make sure send the crap players to the bottom of the list so you avoid them (i.e. Titus Bramble, Derby's defence, Villa's strikers).

Villa have strikers ? I thought they played a 4-6-0 formation.
