Subject: Ten Cate to Chelsea?

Are my ears and eyes deceiving me or did I hear that Ten Cate ( Ajax' trainer, not for long I suppose) goes to Chelsea?

I am curious to know the following:

Do you guys think this is true? And what do you think of Ten Cate?

i think he has a pretty funny name! i misread your post initially as "Ten Cats to Chelsea"!. I think there is more chance of chelsea signing ten cats than Ten Cate coming to Chelsea though.

i've heard that also.not sure what too make of it though,any big club will have every name associated with them so take it with a pinch of salt.

But what do you guys think of Ten Cate? Is he competent enough to manage a team with such players, money and reputation? Or isn't he experienced enough to withstand the pressure? Hmm, I doubt it, he didn't make ajax one bit better, he lacks good results and his press conferences are one big laugh. Furthermore he's the one to blame for the inadequate purchases he requested to execute: Most of the time the trainers decide which players should be bought. But that all is just my opinion.

certainly not a "household" name.

I can't blame you for that. But I can tell you that he was assistant at FC Barcelona, Spain. And that he managed to lose against Dinamo Zagreb this week.

yeah but that's just because Ajax sucks.. So I wouldn't blame it on Ten Cate :)

Ajax are one of the great teams in football. Their current squad isn't mega (I see that they recently signed a player from Norwich.....), but I'm sure they'll improve.

Yeah, Ten Cate to Chelsea is a rumour. Does he know Avram Grant?

as i understand it, that will remain Avram's problem. Grant will stay 'manager' but will effectively be back in the role of Director of Football, which is the part he played at Pompey (?)(if memory serves) also. ten Cate will be coach, and effectively decide team, training, and tactics. This he should be qualified to do, while Avram worries about managing players, transfers, and contracts, etc. As for who picks transfers... we all know at chelsea that will first and foremost remain Abramovich.

@Forestman: I am quite sure that Ten Cate will make the transfer as his solicitor and Avram Grant himself stated he will make the move. Furthermore an English reporter showed a tape where you could hear Lens ( Ten Cates sollicitor) stating the deal is nearly finished.
About your statement saying Ajax will improve:
He could be replaced by Jol who currently has The Spurs under his "wings" if so; I am sure Ajax will improve as I see Jol as a better manager than Ten Cate.

The player of Norwich you meant is Collin I guess, he was presented by Ten Cate as being a great defender, well I don't know what Ten Cate means with great: he isn't great at all.

Very interesting. But my opinion still remains that he isn't competend enough of managing Ajax let alone Chelsea. I hope for him that he won't be able to have influence on the transfer policy because I can assure you he will get Chelsea some old Spanish players who are injured all the time, pretty worthless you know. ;)
