4X brilliant @23 is a realistic goal for a top trainee.

I don't disagree that ML and NT defenders need to have divine def skill to compete with Billy's strikers. But that isn't a reason to forego secondary skill training. Most coaches are going to want their defenders to be capable of playing at 20 and 21, and training them solely in defending and pace won't give them much of a chance to play well along the way.

When the USA matures to the point where we can be competitive against the top teams, it'll be 25yo's and 26yo's that are in the starting lineup, not 23yo's.

Fact is if my strikers are in divine form, even a divine defender will have trouble tackling them from behind.

I won the last premiership with no defender above brilliant def skill (2x brill, 2x outstanding).
