Subject: YYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!

oh and you're sure that's a trivial change>?
2007-12-11 18:33:08
I'm going to have to agree and say it probably is a trivial change. Cause the conditional for red cards already behaves that way. So I'm assuming they would just have to copy/paste the code for the red card conditional, but make the check on the score and presto it is done.

But I have to think they have some reason that they do not want it to be this way. Maybe it is to keep stronger teams from just playing their bare minimum team. Right now it is hard for me to juggle training for Le Breton / Bu in the cup and league. But if I had the conditionals like islander wants, it would be very easy for me to bring in the guns at the very moment I need them the most. And thus make it tougher for a smaller squad to beat me in the cup.

ding ding.

I'm a "coder" too lol.

It would also probably be "easy" to reset cards at the end of the season. The devs don't want cards reset at the end of the season. As has been said before, don't call something broken just because it doesn't work the way you want it to. My screwdriver isn't broken because I can't use it to hammer nails.
2007-12-12 14:07:52
In reality, a screwdriver is designed to tighten and loosen screws, though.

In soccer reality, this is the way conditionals can be implemented. My desire is soccer authenticity. Is that too much to ask? I look at this sim from when I started about 16 months ago to now, and I really don't see much progress over the time span. Note I am not saying no progress....but not much.

Things like conditionals working.....attackers not kicking the ball on goal from 50 yards away on a breakaway...

Cards not resetting is fine, at least in international play you can only get two yellows before a suspension - whereas here its three.

You are happy with an inferior soccer simulation compared to what it could easily be, if the dev(s) here took measures to actually do something useful.

These cries that Guac occasionally makes 'it's only one guy' well here's an idea - hire someone else to help!

Your attackers wouldn't be making bad decisions in one-on-one situations if they had better playmaking.

Again, I think the conditionals is just an issue of them not working the way you want them to work, not the conditionals being "broken."

its a valid counterpoint only to an extent. There are scenarios where I'd agree with this. However, there are numerous others where common sense overrides this.

it's not like my strikers PM is miserable. They aren't midfielders either though - but they shouldn't need to be to allow common sense to occur on a soccer pitch.
2007-12-12 16:24:37
Do you play soccer? I'd say it's fairly common for a player that doesn't have much "field sense" to shoot before they actually have to.
2007-12-12 16:28:56
No, but I've played years of ice hockey, which is like soccer except the game is three times as fast.

I've played intramural soccer - as a goalie mind you, not a striker.

I hold to my view on this.

It's one thing if you are approaching a defender you know (as a manager) you can outdribble but the player chooses not to - and shoots from a distance - that I can factor to 'game sense' - the concept of a player figuring out if he can dribble past a defender or if it panics and shoots.

It's yet another if you are behind the back line and nothing but space for 20 yards on the pitch. I'm not talking about shooting a sec or two early due to an approaching goalie.

I'm talking about stupidity like shooting 5 seconds early, for no reason...or even better, the famous 'back pass' although admittedly I've seen that happen less often recently.

A soccer pitch is larger than a hockey rink, and thus there's more space to cover between the last defender and the goal. You've got people yelling at you (some of whom are yelling "man on!"). So, yes, I can see shooting at inopportune times without "playmaking" ability.
2007-12-12 20:27:37
The game....is.....slower....then hockey. and it can't be any louder on the pitch level then on a rink.

I'm not talking about players with unsatisfactory PM either. It's not rocket science here, a striker KNOWS when he's behind the lines. I feel I''ve watched enough international soccer matches to see this.
2007-12-12 21:59:18
Maybe you've watched enough games, but it doesn't sound like you've played enough games. It's the same thing as when I see someone say, "I can't believe my strikers keep missing PK's," I think they haven't shot very many PK's.
2007-12-13 22:10:08
No, I played a real sport instead of soccer ;)

All you are doing now is trying to distract the debate from the actual point though. All you are doing is making excuses for a fundamental flaw in the match engine. The intelligence of the ME as it applies to the 'ATTACK' order needs some serious revising. I'm fine with a striker acting stupid if he's got hopeless PM (and trust me, I see quite a few with horrendous PM go for millions on the market - people stupidly hung up on the whole belief that a forward needs 3 categories only).

But in the end, these guys are attackers, not offensive midfielders. There is a level of common sense in the attack orders that simply doesn't exist. Many of us have seen it time and again.
2007-12-14 00:27:43
I'm pretty sure the actual point was that we now have 10 tactic slots.
2007-12-14 01:44:22
that was the original poster's point, true :)
