The hidden trait is called "Manager's perception"
Actually, I measure it in actual results. Like assists.
My guy had excellent/formidable passing and still never passed for crap. Unlike others with equal passing.
then he gets sold, and gets 5 assists in three games in virtually the exact same role.

You don't see the fundamental flaw in that logic?
All of my players stink, no matter what talent they have.
Well, your example makes it easy to point out. Assists are dependent on at least five factors: the player making the assist, the player scoring the goal, the defender(s) trying to stop him, the opposing keeper, and the tactics used.
When the player moves from one team to another, four of those five factors change. Now, instead of blaming some hidden factor, doesn't it make more sense that the match engine is crunching different numbers and getting different results?
Occam's razor. The simplest explanation is most often the correct one.

That could be true, but what if you are wrong?
Long time ago before we had the team-work skill it just to be this way. Talent was a hidden ability players had to improve and perform.

If I'm wrong, and only one person can notice this difference, then I'm not worried about it. Any player I have is going to perform better with training, so I'll keep training them. I don't see a point in selling one player to buy a similarly skilled one because someone thinks he might have some hidden attribute that keeps him from performing as well as another player.
Secondarily, talent is hidden in such a way that we can roughly quantify it, and we were told it existed from the start. There's just too many variables to quantify this new hidden whateveritis.

ok! You should do what you think is best for your team.
My evaluation of my player(s) isn't solely based on assists by any stretch.
However, for the layman/outsider to my team who obviously knows very little about the players and their skills, assists was the simplest manifestation/example I could give.

All my players seem to play better than their skills..
The only thing I can think of - is perhaps islanders is right in that certain combinations of skills produce better results then certain other higher combinations. Like for example, a player with a lower pace and lower passing may decide to take longer shots, and since his scoring is very high - it goes in the net.
