I don't mind the non-resetting of cards at all,it's just when you have 5 or 6 starters sitting there with 2 yellows you get a little nervous.
I don't mind the system as is, but wonder if there couldn't be a compromise that wouldn't upset the masses.
What if a yellow card expired after a full calender year? I have a player who has two yellows right now, the first of which he received on April 5, 2007. If it gets to April 5, 2008, and he has not received another yellow card, then that one yellow card would expire.
A player would end up hanging on to a yellow card for over 3 seasons before it expired. Of course if he gained 3 yellows (or a red), then they would be removed after the 1 game suspension as they are now.
