Subject: C Leagues

I think that Krepa pointed out a very serious problem. I completely agree with the fact that
something should be done to change the given situation, playing with bots all the season is completely meaningless.

How can we write all together to admin to ask for a change starting next season?

I agree with all the proposals I have read on this forum till now.

i concur.

You just did.

One of those pesky admins is always around it seems ;)

Couldn't agree more. I didn't know the stats but if you had ca 350 players with 32 C-leagues and it went down to 300-310 range with 64 C-leagues, then we've just identified a major problem.

Indeed it should be easy to implement next season. If closing 32 leagues completely is too troublesome then consider my earlier suggestion. Keep 32 c-leagues 'inactive' by filling them with bots only and not including their winners in the promotion table.

Once the remaining 32 leagues start filling up and have, say, 6-7 human teams each, we can consider expanding again. I would recommend doing it gradually, i.e. expand to 48 leagues first, since suddenly doubling the number of leagues would reduce the number of human teams to 3-4 and we would be back to where we are now. But that's in the future.

Please, close half of the c-leagues!!!

Is there a US admin for US league? Can he (they) alone make the changes or does it have to come from the creators of the game? Do you (anybody) know how it works?

Filling C leagues with at least 6 human users and keeping some leagues filled only with bots (and not taking these into account during the qualification games) is also a very good solution.

Initially I was thinking to put 8 real users in every "human" C league but that would mean that all new players would go to the same new league creating a disproportion in the strengths of the league.

If this idea wins and we will have, lets say 30 "human" leagues with 6 real users in every one of them (almost, since the last one might have less) there will be around 60 free spots for the new players

lol...he is the admin ;)

Great:-) So the admin knows what we propose. What happens next? Can someone explain how these issues are handled in sokker?

Quick question when we get new teams will they fill up the bot league first and then the overflow goes to another bot league or will they be placed where needed in whatever league?
2008-05-17 05:03:52
if it was up to me i would put 6 user teams in every league (or at least 5). the new teams would be placed in the existing "user" leagues. once all the "user" leagues are full "bot" leagues would get real users. it would take some time though since not that many people are applying for a team.

if this happened the older leagues filled with real users could be a bit stronger than the fresh ones but since more than one team would have a chance to advance i do not think it would be a great problem.

i think whatever solution is picked (cutting the number of leagues in half or filling user leagues with 6 teams and leaving the other "bot" leagues active but not taking part in the qualification process) it will be better than what we have now.

The problem with that is that you'd be looking at one of those teams staying in C league for 6 seasons.

gotta agree with the ben... i think the problem isn't so much with the acquiring of new teams and the distribution of the c league... i think its actually above that... the difference between b league and a league is geting bigger and the gap between A and the ML is getting smaller... i think the problem is too many teams are dropping out of the higher level league because of how difficult it is to advance/stay in A league... i think we should actually keep the C's the way they are, because it gives the lower level players much greater hope of promoting... i think there should actually be a 2 league level between A league and the ML... help thin out the upper ranks a bit as well as provide some releif to the people on the B/A cusp who just can't move because competition is so much better in A/ML...

i don't think its about attracting players as much as it is about retention... imagine how frustrated you'd be knowing if you do make it up to A(which only has 32 teams) you have at least a 50-50 shot you'll be playing a relagation match(half the teams in a are set for relegation matches this season)... and what makes it worse, is its the teams that just got up there...

look at the difference in league strengths...

53.9 Major League
49.0 A-League.04
48.2 A-League.01
47.4 A-League.02
47.3 A-League.03
39.5 B-League.09
39.1 B-League.01
38.2 B-League.12
[...]
34.0 B-League.13
34.0 B-League.07
30.1 B-League.14
24.8 C-League.05
24.7 C-League.19
24.6 C-League.15

there is getting to be a log jam at the top and i think that is whats causing a lot of people to leave...
2008-05-17 06:07:24
not really

if you had 6 users and two teams had a chance to advance than it might take 3 seasons for everybody to advance

right now if you have only two teams in a C league one of them might actually never advance...
(read previous posts and ask people who are in a C league right now)

but that is not actually the most important point. playing with only one or two other real users is boring and you do not learn anything about tactics etc by winning the games 10:0. if there were more teams (5 or 6) a season in a C league would be much more interesting.
2008-05-17 06:12:13
and what your post has to do with C leagues???

if you think things should be changed/improved with the situation in higher leagues then start advocating for it.

one should be able to take care of users who have been playing sokker for a long time (like you suggest) but it is absolutely not in conflict with improving the situation for new and future users

please do not impede with our efforts if you are not interested in our problem
2008-05-17 06:19:21
two teams had a chance to advance

Not possible to do. First Greg and Daniel suppose to rewrite the code to allow that.

Playing with only one or two other real users is boring and you do not learn anything about tactics etc by winning the games 10:0

Not really. There were couple bot teams in a C(were managed and went "dead", finally went to C) and them can beat your and my team very easy. But admins decide switch them back to managed instead weakest bots.
2008-05-17 06:28:52
First you are saying it is impossible and then that they would have to rewrite the code??? So which one is true? If they can rewrite the code then it is possible i guess.

i do not think it is too difficult to do and as i said before i think that is how they do it in the lowest Polish league and they have the most experienced so maybe it is a good idea.

NOw you say that playing bots is not really boring? if there are two or three relatively strong bots out of what a hundred? then it does not prove your point. besides even if there is a strong bot in a C league that does not make things more interesting.Playing a real user is always better.

now every user that is currently in a C league that i have talked to so far has agreed with me that a suggested change would be nice.

why are you posting actually? you do not want the changes? if they are difficult or whatever let the admins decide if they want to do it or not. or you are just posting for your own satisfaction that if there are no changes it will be thanks to you? please explain it to me
