I'd like to run for NT coach. My opinions about players and player secondaries is different than other coaches, so if elected you'll see some unconventional players and subs on the roster. I also believe that not enough coaches utilize their defense to support ball control and offense.

You should vote for me because I'm awesome.

Tell me why my tactics are so mediocre.
2008-05-27 15:36:10
I may vote for you just out of morbid curiosity. Seriously. Because you DO have a differing viewpoint on player builds and uses.

In Hockey Arena coming up I was the same way- did well, got into NT management over more established successful owners with conventional thinking. Ended up having three very successful seasons as NT U20 manager as a result...and now my thinking on young player builds is the norm, instead of the exception.

I'll vote for you if you'll throw both matches against me next season. Otherwise ... well ... I'll probably still vote for you. But that's only because you're awesome.

Oh, Islander, if we can come together there's hope for the Middle East.
2008-05-27 18:52:03
Yeah, it's going to be interesting next season. How come you haven't responded to my invite to the Rangers game, asshole?
2008-05-27 20:27:21
You've invited me to a Rangers game?
2008-05-27 20:29:08
I sent an email to your gmail account.
2008-05-27 20:38:17
Ah, that explains why you haven't heard back from me. I still haven't trained myself to check that address regularly, even though I'm using it more and more. Response has been sent.

Oh, and by the way... those of you that are dying to support my candidacy, I've just applied for the position, so now you can vote for me. VOTE EARLY, VOTE OFTEN!

I am evaluating candidates by their ability to present me with a cogent analysis of why my tactics suck. So far, Chinese is in the lead.
2008-05-27 21:05:34
I'll have to give a detailed analysis later.

The last time I reviewed his tactics for him, it was pretty easy to see why they sucked.

It's because he doesn't change them much (at all? ) from game to game ;)

the ML standard mindset is:

a) I know how to train great players
b) I've been around for close to 8-10 seasons now, so I have good cash flow from training great talent. Therefore, the cycle replicates itself.

some teams get the bonus of having a youth school spit out tons of talent ready made for them. Jon would not be one of those teams though, I don't believe.

There used to be a far greater disparity in talent between ML and A, so I think there's just complacency really. Look at the results this term. Because in the end, players skills make up 80% of a given gameplan and result, but tactics can make the difference between two closely skilled teams.

This complacency was augmented by the fact several teams actually sandbagged their qualifiers to stay away from the ML. It's been the ol' boys club for some time now.

As the gap's reduced over the past few seasons...

Jon, all you have to do to win the ML is really dedicate yourself to the tactical aspect of things. Tradeoff of that of course is, when tactics are great but results are shit, it drives you a bit mad over time.
IMO.

Actually, I may win it because my talent gap is going to be even better. By the time next season is over, I will only have one starter older than 23, and all of my non-trainees will have a sale value between $7m and $15m. And the one old guy is Kast.
2008-05-27 22:11:08
This is exactly my point though. This was your attitude before as well.

Standard ML mentality is - keep replicating the training and sales cycle until your team is so good it overrides any use for tactics as the talent differential is just insurmountable.

You ask these candidates why your tactics suck, but you knew the answer all along :)

You are the Humpolec Venkov of Sokker haha

Actually, I'll pay attention to tactics in 2 seasons when I may have a chance to actually finish above 9th place. Until then, I'll finish in the top 5 no matter what I do next season, and won't be good enough to take out Billy, Fromo or Barndog. But if Benmor, Chinese, Barndog, etc want to figure it out for me this season, then who am I to say "No."

By the way, I dispute your conclusion that I ignore tactics. I point out that there are 4 new ML teams this season. I must have done SOMETHING right other than good training and sales luck to manage top 4.

It was luck, though - I stink.

Back on topic - Benmor, I await eagerly your conclusions about why my tactics suck.
