Subject: lineup bug

fwiw, it's never hit me in all my time here.

it did tonight. I even updated my formation for this particular game. I made the modifications from within the game screen itself.

The issue everyone reports, it's apparently legitimate if you aren't careful. I normally, when I make changes, go into the tactics page - completely change the formation , then save it, then go back in and re add it. Why? Because of all the previous reports of lineup bugs and failures of this game to recognize the lineups you put in.

This week I took no precautions. I had no real pretense of winning anyway. But the bug absolutely exists. I will vouch for it now. It put my backup lineup in - wrongly.

If I hadn't checked my lineup today, I would have had my b-team in AGAIN.

yep, same here.

Me as well.

specifically and concisely and described in a way where it can be reproduced, what is this bug?

guac, I didn't believe it existed until Sunday. But you can see my lineup, and you know how diligent I am.

I can give you a ballpark idea of what I did that day, but I can't be specific because I never expected - nor tried - to make it happen.

Essentially what I did on Sunday was I checked my lineup. It was good. I then went in and changed my formation to Rick Rolled. After that, I actually went in and edited the tactic. From that particular entry point.

After that, I saved it, saw the lineup (and nothing stood out as wrong) and went on with my afternoon (as Elliott woke up).

Next thing I know, I'm logging on at 8 sunday night to a 9-0 blowout.

There is some sort of caching issue on the site, imo. Either that or a flaw in when the automatic lineup generation takes place. That's an unprofessional opinion of course, but when it happens to so many people on separate occasions, you really need to ask yourself.

I wonder if everyone who has been hit with this uses Firefox like me. If so, then it could possibly be an issue with how Firefox interacts with Sokker. Although then again, there is no other site I interact with that has any issue like this.

All along what I had been doing is the following:

1) never editing the tactic from that entry point. I always did it from the coaching page.

2) anytime I changed the tactic at all - even if it was the same one - I reset the tactic. Meaning let's say I'm using migration II for a match. I tweak it based on my opponent. When I finish, I go into tactics, I completely change the tactic from Migration II to 3-5-2. Save. Then reload Migration II into the page, and save again. I then make sure some random default lineup doesn't populate. So far, it never has.

Why do I do this? Because again, I strongly believe there is either a server side caching issue, or a critical flaw in how automatic lineups are produced (and why/when they are).

There were several occasions over the seasons where I have made direct positional changes in a tactic, not done the above, and in the match the changes did NOT take place. It's like the server didn't see the changes I made because I didn't 'refresh' the tactic.

The morale of the story here is, I have no confidence in the reliability of this site to accept my tactics and lineup - I never have - and now after Sunday that feeling is cemented.. I'd have been really, really PO'd if this were a match that actually mattered. Even the bad goal differential doesn't bother me, if it causes me to finish 5th I'll just kick the crap out of some B team if need be. But if this had cost me a shot at the league title I'd be in full sokker sucks meltdown mode.

I would suggest perhaps looking into how the game comes up with a default lineup. Because I think the way and the situations that cause this default lineup (which is typically your last one) to come into play is what is triggereing the issue.

Better yet, take that functionality out altogether. People can set lineup weeks ahead now. If they don't log in for 3 weeks, and have an issue that causes them to play with 10 players for a match, that's on them. Not Sokker.

i'm sure a bug exists.

As soon as i get a description of a reproducible set of steps to generate this bug i will follow up with greg directly on the admin forum.

best I can tell you, the bug is somewhere around how the autogeneration of a lineup comes up. I wish I could tell you where, or when.

If you want to give me a second team in C league, I can help try and reproduce it, but you'll understand if I'm not going to try and do it again with my own team. :)

Question, did you set your Wednesday line up after your last change to your Sunday tactic?
2008-08-13 00:31:55
no. 99% sure. Something else good to test though. Of course you may never know until a game is played. I am positive that in everyone's case they looked and saw their starting lineup in there pre-game. But something blows up behind the scenes.

It has been a few weeks for me. As I recall, I put in my lineup and then messed with the tactics a bit.

During tonight's game I had conditional orders which I didn't set-up before this game. During second half I had unpredicted switches: GK with MID and DEF with ATT when I had good result for my team. After that my opponent scored one goal (because I had MID as GK) and I lost whole game. WTF?!?!
